The ship I was on, USS Navarro (APA-215), was built in 1944. We did have women aboard one night - when we were allowed to bring guests aboard for Christmas Eve dinner 1963. We just arrived Pohang, South Korea that day so you can guess who the ladies were Bet you couldn't do that today

I spent 3 Christmases deployed, I know how you feel.

One of them we were actively conducting an operation, and we had secured a schoolhouse to use as a tempoary FOB for a few days. Bn HQ surprised us with a load of the good food from the Chow Hall in the resupply convoy. The only bad part about that was they didn't send utensils, so we were eating Steak and lobster with our bare hands.

That was a great Christmas!

Edit: That's 4 Christmases deployed, 3 in Iraq and 1 in Afghanistan.

Only 1 Christmas deployed but missed my first 4 wedding anniversaries (and several others along the way). My wife always said it was a USMC conspiracy. Chow without utensils - a Viking feast (we actually planned these every so often, just make sure you pick food items that are hand friendly). Not sure why but steak and lobster in the field especially on 10 November always tasted a great - probably more do to the company than the food.

Mobilized to CLNC to support the initial push into Iraq from 2003-2004. Discharged in 2004 due to service limitation.

US Army
I swallowed my pride to continue service to the nation. Entered the Army late in 2004 (Fort Drum, NY: 1BCT) deployed to Iraq from 2005-2006, redeployed to Iraq 2007-2009.

Changed station to Germany (2d Cavalry Regiment) in 2009, deployed to the Stan 2010-2011, and I’ve been traveling the world ever since. I’ve met a lot of amazing people along the way, so I have no complaints.
