Itās for the mike unit because Iām using a Midland MXT275 where the controller and display is the mike. I bought a kit from Cooltech.com that has the antenna, GMRS, cables, antenna mount and extension cable. Or just order an RJ45 cable off Amazon.
I put mine behind the glove box. I used an RJ45 extension cable that hangs down next to the center tunnel under the dash. I was going to cut a square hole and use a panel mount RJ45 female connect, but I got lazy as well. I do recommend the 12 volt adapter that Quadratec sells. Snaps in line...
One other option is to add hood vents and possibly side fender vents. But I agree that putting a sheet like that across the grill area is blocking the required air flow through the radiator.
