  1. New Suzuki Jimny proves Wranglers are overpriced (and Broncos, and Defenders, and everything else)

I spent a couple of months in Iceland last summer and rented a Jimny for a trip up to the west fjords. I came away with the impression that the Jimny is the Miata of 4x4s. Itā€™s simple, tiny, charming, and very good at its intended purpose. However, problems start to occur when you compare it to...
  2. Rubicon Purchase(r)s - how many, why

I feel like Jeep designed the Rubicon first, and then said ok let's start toning it down for other other models. The Rubicon just looks "right". The tire sizes, proportions, height... it's a great looking rig. The Sahara is pretty tame looking by comparison, and the sport looks like it's been...
  3. LED Lighting Group on a Rubicon - worth it?

100,000% The standard bulbs on my JK were hilariously bad. Like last century bad. Rubicon doesn't stop on a dime, so get the lights that give you a better view up-road. Yeah, they're pricy, but buying aftermarket that have proper throw and focus will cost nearly as much.
  4. What do you wish was different on your JL?

4xe has a heat pump or something, because itā€™ll heat itself on battery power alone. Thatā€™s all Iā€™m asking for, the plug supplements the battery while the battery is being used for heat. Youā€™re right about the lock! Iā€™m embarrassed that Iā€™ve missed it for 3 months. Thank you for that. I assume...
  5. What do you wish was different on your JL?

I miss that coin tray every day.
  6. What do you wish was different on your JL?

Yes! So silly to have the volume on the right side, so that it is operated with the same hand as the knob. Should assume that your right hand is occupied and move volume to the left. I did this programmatically with an aftermarket stereo on my JK and it was so much better. Switching back to the...
  7. What do you wish was different on your JL?

My biggest, 4XE-specific: When the vehicle is plugged in, WHY does the gas engine kick on when remote starting? I want to heat the cabin with electricity coming from the plug. Don't waste my gas and kick up a bunch of fumes in the garage! Even if not plugged-in, would prefer to use battery...
  8. What do you believe the designers and engineers got right on the JL?

Agreed, the interior layout is mostly functional and intuitive, plus the materials are really nice for the entry price point and considering they are intended to be durable and all-weather. The steering wheel especially feels great, and the controls on the wheel are excellent. I had a Porsche...
  9. Is a JL wrangler a good daily driver???

Smooth isn't the issue with wranglers. They can be bouncy (less so with a 4 door) but they are very compliant on the highway. The issue is more steering wandering. With a solid axle vehicle like this, sitting on big tires, you'll be making lots of little micro-corrections to keep it in its lane...
  10. Which of these Rubicon graphics do you prefer:

OEM, but with a brighter outline. The red doesn't contrast enough, but the blue of the 4XE Rubi graphics look amazing on Granite Crystal.
  11. Think twice before buying a 4xe

I havent seen the text of the latest version, but an earlier version of the bill capped any vehicle with a battery smaller than 40kwh to $4,000. If that remains, the credit would reduce from $7,500 to $4,000 on all 4XE models (since our battery is only 17kwh).
  12. Think twice before buying a 4xe

Take it from someone who had one of the first BMW i3s, and one of the first Tesla Model 3s... being an early adopter on new tech comes with 3 certainties: 1) Dealers will have a lack of staff trained to fix these units 2) There will be a wait for parts (made worse by current supply chain...
  13. Jeep Wrangler 4xe first impressions from Sandy Munro

Basically this. No, heā€˜s not always this bad. His insights are fascinating. His company specializes in automotive teardowns and he makes money selling reports about technology and manufacture techniques to other automakers. He tends to focus on cars that are technically innovative or novel, so...
  14. Jeep Wrangler 4xe first impressions from Sandy Munro

I really like Sandy's takes, but this is a disappointing video. He's a Jeep owner, and I've seen him wax poetic about his Rubicon in other videos. This is a guy that evaluates cars for a living and he chooses to drive home in a Rubi. He's also now torn down all of the major modern EVs, so I'm...
  15. Next Generation Prediction

Tell that to Challenger buyers. Stellantis knows better than anyone that if you get a product right, you can just release editions and colors for a decade or more with no major updates and people will eat it up. Becomes hugely profitable after the initial design and tooling is paid off.
  16. Phone Holder Alternatives?

Iā€™ve ordered a RAM Mount system designed for bike handlebars, and intend to attach it to the e-brake handle allowing the phone to float above it next to the cup holders. Edit: CMM has a nice solution with RAM mounting point. The RAM stuff is super high quality...
  17. Rich Jeepers

    40. Single. Financial literacy software.
  18. 4XE for short trips?

I take your point, but find people are still confused with the term "hybrid" because the button is labelled "hybrid" but you still may have plenty of EV range with an EV bias until it's gone. Maybe the better way to say this for newbies is "When your EV range is depleted".
  19. Exterior Color Selection

I'm also 40. Billet is no longer available, unfortunately. That was my first choice. I went with Granite Crystal. It's a beautiful color especially in person, on of the only colors left with metallic depth to the paint. I didn't want something dark either, but the sting grey looks muddy brown at...
