It's currently overlapping, only because that's the way I left it when I put the rear seat back in. I will say that my kid sat in the back seat yesterday and didn't feel it rubbing against his legs, which was a concern of mine. I'm not sure how I will leave it in the future.

I unbolted mine and then rocked them back and forth to get the flooring in place. You can take them out, which would make things easier, but it's not necessary to do so.
