  1. The OEM LED light package is dangerous in snow.

I remember seeing this and had to drive through some cold country recently in my LED headlight equipped Wrangler. Fortunately we never drove through enough snow for it to pack up on the headlights. I thought this could happen with some aftermarket headlights I bought for my 4Runner too. Maybe...
  2. Those who never take their doors off... Why?

All of the above for me - weather related, storage, just don't want to. I bought the Jeep to do things that I was doing on dual sport motorcycles or dirt bikes but with my wife along for the ride. If we want the outside experience, we still have the dual sport motorcycles for that. If I want...
  3. List of Chrysler MS-12991 Engine Oil for the 3.0 EcoDiesel Jeep Wrangler

I saw that people were finding the Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W40 at Advance Auto Parts for a good price and happened to be driving by a store this morning. Sure enough, I got a 5qt jug for $14.99! But it's not all good news. That was the last one they had and it seems that Advance Auto Parts is...
  4. Ecodiesel in cold weather

As an update - We had no problems on the trip. The only winter diesel treatment I could find was the stuff by Power Service. I got some winterizing windshield washer fluid additive too. On the way down we used some of the factory windshield washer fluid. There still wasn't much space for the...
  5. Ecodiesel in cold weather

I'll be traveling from the PNW to AZ on this leg of the trip and getting fuel along the way. Are pumps typically marked when the fuel is winterized? I didn't notice any markings on the way up. The forecast low for the place we'll be staying overnight is down to 3 degrees F. I'll probably need...
  6. Ecodiesel in cold weather

Good to know that's a potential issue. I recall seeing something about removing and bypassing the aux battery. Mine hasn't been an issue. I am carrying a booster though so maybe I need to refresh my memory on the aux battery bypass. I won't have time to get a programmer to do anything more than...
  7. Ecodiesel in cold weather

That's interesting. I'm in the PNW now. I might just have to get an additive. I haven't had to use the windshield washers at all on this vehicle yet so the tank is still on the factory fill. I usually just clean the windshield with a glass cleaner and microfiber towel in the morning if it's dirty.
  8. Ecodiesel in cold weather

It was in an area that I was only passing through. I have filled up a few times since then. I'll be passing back through but I'm not sure it would be worth making a special stop at that station to address the issue. I thought it might just be the result of an additive for cold weather at the...
  9. Ecodiesel in cold weather

That's what I thought. It was at a common name brand station and wasn't marked as anything out of the ordinary.
  10. Ecodiesel in cold weather

Looks like I'll have to try to find some things locally or on the way as I'm too close to the travel date to order anything online. I'm still on the factory fill of windshield washer fluid. I wondered about the factory LED headlights (I have them). The ones on my Tundra have their heatsinks...
  11. Ecodiesel in cold weather

I'm normally a desert dweller but I'll be taking my Jeep into a cold area soon. It may not be that cold compared to what some of you experience but it looks like the Jeep will be exposed to below freezing temps and even single digits while parked overnight. There's no option for a block heater...
  12. Diesel Front Spring Spacer Questions

I think it had 1" of spacer and 0.5" was added for a total of 1.5". At least that's how I read it. I took a closer look and I see why you can't just get the springs out with a spring compressor. It's a pretty tight fit between the sway bar and shock. There's just not enough room in there for...
  13. Diesel Front Spring Spacer Questions

Interesting idea. I'm not sure if it flexes any more than full droop on both sides. I thought the shocks might be the limiting factor. I'm not sure why you'd need to disconnect the sway bar end links or loosen the track bar.
  14. Diesel Front Spring Spacer Questions

Sounds like it's a little more than I want to be doing before a big trip. I have the tools, jack and jack stands but I don't really have time for anything to go wrong in the process. If it were as simple as sneaking the springs out with spring compressors and putting the spacer in, then I...
  15. Diesel Front Spring Spacer Questions

I recently added a steel bumper and winch to the front of my otherwise stock JLRUD and lost about 1/2" of ride height. As we know, that's a significant loss of up-travel on these vehicles. I would like to eventually add a lift/tire combination that will add some up-travel but I have a trip...
  16. Rare, slight shake at idle. No other symptoms.

I've had something happen like what you're describing. I mentioned it in a thread I started here. I thought it might have been the A/C compressor kicking on but normally you'd expect the engine to idle-up to compensate. This was more like a load was applied but the engine wouldn't or couldn't...
  17. Diesel Additive?

I was thinking of using the Hotshot LX4 lubricity additive alone to try to keep the CP4 alive as long as possible. Getting the 32oz size bottle makes it pretty reasonable. What's a good way to measure and get it in the tank? I used to use a turkey baster with another diesel and its additive...
  18. Charouleau Gap - IMPASSABLE!

If I weren't down with torn tendons in my arms I'd like to go check out Charouleau Gap on the bike. Same with Rug Road. Rug Road has some ugly spots. A lot of the steep loose climbs that trip guys up on bikes shouldn't be so bad with four big tires on the ground. There's an obstacle on the...
  19. Charouleau Gap - IMPASSABLE!

That's quite an adventure! I have only ever been through Charouleau Gap on a dirt bike. I remember having a hard time and hating it the first few times across (something like 20+ years ago). It's hard to believe that it has been almost six years since I've been trough it now. Six years ago...
  20. Lift Choices and Considerations

I'm trying to make a decision on a lift for my JLURD. There are so many choices so I'm trying to narrow them down the best I can. My preference is going to be about a 3.5" lift to clear 37" tires and hopefully gain a little up-travel in the suspension. I don't have much experience lifting a...
