Reducing lug nut torque helped quite a bit for me. Mine had a nasty vibration starting at 45 right off the lot. Anyway, I finally fixed all my Jeep issues permanently by taking advantage of the market and trading it.
After 2 dead aux batteries, thrumming, random cutting out while cruising...
If you're sensitive to unrefined engine noise, pass on the 2.0T. As 4 cylinder engines go, the 2.0T is the worst sounding by a fair bit. It has a loud whine to it and is very loud/rough during a cold start.
I enjoy a nice sounding engine as much as the next person. I do appreciate a good...
My JLUR 2.0 does the same thing. It only lasts for about 10-20 seconds for me and if I listen near the exhaust I can hear light pops and sputters before it smooths out. It's done this since day 1 for me.
I recently took my jeep to the dealer for a steering box replacement and mentioned the...
Someone had success doing that early in this thread as well. I didn't have success with it. Over about a month, I clocked my drive shaft in all 8 positions at the pinion and tailshaft and didn't notice a difference. It's easy enough to be worth a shot tho if you haven't tried it.
The thrumming was significantly reduced for me after reducing lug nut torque. I'd say 90-95% better. Thrumming in the 50mph and 70mph range is completely gone and at ~64-68mph I can just barely feel it but even then sometimes I don't notice it all anymore.
Still not a 100% solution but much...
Get ready to hear “they all do it” and/or “it’s a characteristic of a 4wd vehic
I drove in 4Hi with the rear shaft removed just as @W8KFM suggests and the thrumming is completely gone. I think @1977Jimmy has it nailed at being a rear driveshaft angle issue.
I think the pinion angle is set too...
This may sound weird, but try retorquing your wheel lugs to ~110 ftlbs. 110 is a little lower than factory spec, but lowering the torque got rid of the low speed vibes for me... just not the 64mph thrum. For some reason, my wheel locks were crazy tight from the factory.
Yes, I replaced the factory shaft with 1410 shaft from Adam’s. Same thrumming vibe. No vibe with rear shaft removed completely and driven in 4hi. Doubt it’s tranny or transfer case. Someone reported a fix after rear diff replaced (assuming they meant rear axle as the diff/locker itself is not...
I’ve noticed that the thrumming is less noticeable on cool mornings. Lows have only dropped to the 60s in my area and the thrumming is definitely less than when it’s 90+ degrees out.
Great point. I didn't consider the variation in pinion angle among the 2 door JL and those running lifts that all have the same problem still.
I looked under a few Gladiator and non Rubicon JLs at my local dealer. All of the Gladiator trims have significantly negative pinion/shaft angle and...
A few on this forum have had their factory shafts replaced without any luck. I replaced my factory shaft with an aftermarket double cardan shaft and it had no effect on thrumming either. But, thrumming is completely gone when driving in 4hi with the rear driveshaft removed, so it's not the rear...
Same issue here. 2020 JLUR. Thrummed from day one off the lot. I took it to the dealer and they acknowledged the vibration during a ride along. A few hours later they called and said they drove a like equipped rubicon on their lot and it does it as well, so it’s “normal”.
The thrumming for me...
