That does not apply to all Jeep. You can reach in and unlock the trunk if the jeep top is off. Disabling is only for those who don't have proximity locks. The trunk does not tie into anything but the rear hatch door needs to be locked to complete the trunk.

Yes, it is an optional feature. The Trunk comes with a door that is not functioning you need the lock kit to use the door. The purpose is to enter the trunk from inside the Jeep. If you wanted to put something in the trunk but didn't want anyone to see you put it in the trunk. ie... Gun, purse...

I drove my Jeep back from the Smoky MT Show in TENN (12 hr Drive) and it didn't rattle or add to any more noise. I don't go over rough terrain but I don't think there will be any noise. The tailgate really secures the trunk tight.
