Well, update: had gears changed by different shop and gear installer said gears were probably not set up right and only one tooth contacting. Gears feel so much better and tighter, no play. Gear installer has 25 years experience and has done many JLs. I have not hit the first 500 miles to...
So it looks like both times my gears were done the shop never really explained the break in procedure to me and I drove home for 50 minutes on the highway, no cool down going 120 kms an hour. I didn’t know…. Now paying the hard way…. I have learned a lot reading the forum about the break in...
no gear pattern pic each time given to me. Great idea!
Six month the first time and six months for the second time. I drove easy the first 500kms the first time and even easier the second time. I did drive on highway for 50 minutes to get home but took it slow speed limit.
I do accelerate...
Only pics I have from last time, shop did the work, checking out diff tomorrow hopefully, just had open heart surgery so I shouldn’t but curious and need to see lol
I’m trying to find out why it is failing, someone more experienced than your smart ass comments. You said it seems like overkill and I provided the info I used to pick my gear set, which was acceptable. Just showing you, no need for the comments if you’re not going to be helpful. Thanks anyways.

I was going to go 40’s...
Yes same noise as last time, even in neutral, grinding. Taking diff cover off in the morning. 100% that is what it is. I had major teeth broken on the pinion the first time, ring gear not broken, just scrapes from broken teeth. I have not drove this time as bad, but I know it’s the same issue...
I’ve never done a burnout, lol. Rubber too expensive, more like heavier on the take off…. I keep reading how small and weak the 5.38 gear is. Now I’m thinking I should go to 4.88’s this time. How hard are gears to do yourself with no back up? Should I attempt it? I would love to learn and...
Hi,
5.38 gears installed with 38’s on 2020 JLUR and this is the second time they blew in the rear??? Gears professionally installed by shop and proper break in done, anyone know why??? This is frustrating and expensive! I have seen some posts online about the 5.38 pinion is the smallest and...
