Just finished cleaning up all the glass. The glass around the defrost wires crumbles like dry clay and the part in the window looks like it got very hot and no I didn’t have the rear defrost on. It’s 80 in Phoenix today. See pic. This clearly looks like a factory defect to me.
Just had this happen to me and was a little surprised that I found this thread. I was standing near the rear of my Jeep with the engine off parked on a level surface when all of a sudden the window just exploded into a million pieces. This is frickin nuts!
For starters the FOB has a new battery. Now... your situation is entirely different. I get no messages other than the normal, "press brake and start button", so I don't see this as the same thing. After doing a bit of research the one thing that makes me now think that it's perhaps NOT the ESS...
I had to look up the ESS battery as I never heard of it but that might explain it acting up more in cold weather. Now I just have to find where it is and how much another one will set me back as I no longer have a warranty. Thanks
Someone please!!! This is an ongoing issue that needs a resolution. Mine get's worse all the time and is especially bad when the outside temp is in the low 30's or below.
I'm having a helluva time with response time of foot to gas pedal to engine. It's almost like there's enough of a lag time that I let off and then press again only to have it lurch forward. Not exactly fun when rock crawling. This is my second Jeep and I experienced no problems like this with...
Just got my Jeep back yesterday with a brand new complete rear end. Date in to the dealer 27 May. My question to the service manager was: Is this the exact same rear end as the one that went out? Answer: No it's an entirely new part number. Me: So they found the problem? Answer apparently but...
Guess what I’m trying to understand is how engaging 4WD is related to the rearend problem. Not saying it doesn’t but I see no correlation. It would seem to me that not using it would cause more wear and stress on the LSD than using it.
Please explain Needles. I only used my 4 wheel drive twice (had a helluva time getting it in) and it wasn’t until after 17000 miles. With LSD I never needed it.
While I’m at it I’m guessing this is NOT happening with every rig out there with this rearend. If not, why not. Bad parts from somewhere, crap assembly for a period of time. Surely someone has the answer.
Clutch disc material caused fractures in the gears? I don’t know if this new part is going to fix things or not but this is costing some serious money so I have to believe they know what’s causing it and are trying to fix it. Why the hell they don’t just tell us i do not understand.
Of course they said they were unaware. Is it bad to have a defect, fess up and tell people what they’re doing to correct it!!! So sick of no one taking responsibility for anything!
Update: My new rear end that was supposed to be here today is now scheduled for July 6 at the earliest. The story seems to be changing just a bit in that there are so many with this problem they are on backorder.
That is precisely what they told me. I asked if they had any service bulletins or any form of alert on this issue and was told they did not. I alerted him to the fact there’s plenty of information on the internet about this exact problem. If nothing else they know that I know.
They told me there was one in LA and it would be here Monday. The only thing they said that would not be new is the axles but after reading a few more of the posts I’m afraid I’m probably going to be making another trip to the dealer.
On a different note whether it has anything to do with it or...
On a whim I decided to do a search on here after I just got word from the dealer that the rearend on my, “UNLIFTED”, JL unlimited with 17000 miles was basically destroyed. The service advisor acted like he never heard of something like this happening. In any event they are putting in an entirely...
