Here's facts for you. A person doesn't buy a diesel to save money on maintenance or initial cost. A person buys a diesel for what it can do that a gas engine of the same size can't. Can you say "torque" ? Can you say "pulling power"?
I've owned two Ram diesel pickups and have had hundreds...
I had put over 500 miles of in-town driving on my new Rubicon ecodiesel with no problems . Then I decided to take a 200+ mile round trip on the highway (70-75mph). On the way home the cruise control kicked off and the check engine light came on. The next work day I took it to the dealer and...
And, here in Nevada, as I'm sure it is in other states, if you mess with the emissions, you can't pass a smog check and renew the registration. Sorry, folks, but the guvment got us by the you-know-whats there.

BTW: If my dealership gets in trouble for this, I'm gonna be pissed. They are a great crew! I'm super happy with my Wrangler.
The dealership added the lift kit and tires on their own, and I had no input. It was that way when I first saw it. So I can't tell you if they had any misgivings about it.

The 2.0 had a lot of off the line power, and I had no issues with its abilities out in the desert or on the rocks.
But the diesel engine just sounds so much better, and the...
My Jeep dealer installed a Mopar lift kit for a 3.6 on my diesel. It looks and rides perfect (right now). If I have any issues in the future I can always talk with the dealership about their decision then. But I don't expect to have any.
I recently brought home a Rubicon ecodiesel and now have just over 500 miles of city driving on it. The Wrangler came with dealer installed lift kit and 37 inch tires on 20 inch wheels. So far, the city driving on these 37s has resulted in 21mpg avg over the 500 miles. I haven't taken it off...
Today I drove down and asked the guy in the parts dept whose job is to order the lift packages for the Wranglers.
He said they used a Mopar lift kit for a 3.6. Only diff, he said, might be front Springs. But all looks and feels good.
I bought a diesel Rubicon with dealer installed lift kit and 37 in tires. If the diesel lift isn't yet available, now I'm wondering what they did?.....
