I think for the most part the engine is a pretty reliable platform and the issues you encounter may vary depending on your use case.
The biggest issue for me and many others is the engine heat issue. These motors build heat very fast especially when you are on the turbo a lot. So maintaining...
I haven’t tried to install yet. This shipment of my top was delayed so it came right before I was heading out of town for two weeks. I will install when I get back in a week or so. Fingers crossed.
Hi Everyone-
Just picked up a Bestop for my Diesel. Looking at the install instructions it mounts to the two holes in the roll bar in the rear cargo area. I also have a rear cargo shelf from American Adventure Labs that mounts in the same spot. I would like to keep that as part of my setup...
this has not been my experience at all. I have similar weight as you but the suspension didn’t respond well to that. I was literally riding on my rear bump stops at that weight. In addition, I had continuous problems with mine. After 6 months I removed the suspension. It was creating...
man you got some weight on that Jeep. I am 6700 so hope it handles the weight fine. How do you feel about the brakes? I feel like they are getting a little overloaded.
I am sure there are a number here that have. Mine is sitting in my garage and will be installed next weekend when I get back into town! I will be curious how it handles all of the additional weight I have on the vehicle - gobi rack, tent, swing out bumper, rocksliders etc.
Any experience installing these on a diesel with the vacuum booster? I am not digging the vagueness of the stock brakes and given the weight I am carrying need to figure out a solution for a firmer pedal feel and more stopping power.
get out there and test that setup so you can report back!!! I am interested to know how the springs do! Also curious if anyone has bought the AEV but upgraded the shocks?
Vendors like to sell what they have. The more use cases for a given set of parts the better. I don’t think all springs are created equally and even though a gas shock may work it will behave differently with more weight on it than intended. Spring rate and load go hand in hand.
I could care...
Well if you are lighter than stock and dont even get the full 2.5" then I am not optimistic about all the weight I am already carrying plus what I plan to add. Bummer...
Definitely interested in some real world opinions of folks running the AEV kit with heavy loads. As far as heavy loads I mean multi-day overloading trips with full gear (fridge, all the camping stuff, water etc) PLUS a roof top tent, winch, bumpers etc.
It ends up being quite a bit of weight...
Eeesh I ordered some too. Never thought to tell them I had diesel. I doubt Jeep would engineer something that would get in the way of sliders. I have a Rubicon with factory sliders so it has to be possible.
Stupid question but how did you get the top control box off? I want to take it off to drill and re-route the cable but after undoing the four bolts it still doesn't want to come off. The one end with the connections doesn't release. Do I have to undo the bolts for all the connections to...
