  1. To manual or not to manual?

I've got 60k on my manual jlu.... Always manual
  2. Trade in a 21 Willys for a 23 Rubicon

Why not a 24 Willys? You get upgraded axles, 4.10s and rear locker? Unless you really need the front locker and 4:1 t case, it seems like the better deal that a 23 Rubicon.... Or just wheel what you've got (my suggestion).
  3. Coming in 2027 - fully electric Wrangler

I also have an EV (model Y) and it is pretty awesome, however owning it definitely tempers my expectations for an EV wrangler. Let me explain why-in order for a current EV to work well they have to be two things - very very efficient (aerodynamics and really low rolling resistance on the...
  4. Anyone else kinda miffed that there's no hybrid Wrangler?

So, I now own a Tesla model y, and the Wrangler. I've come to the feeling that electric is good in it's place, and gas is good in it's place. Both do certain things well. Combining the two is complex, expensive, and heavy. I'll have one or the other, but no thanks on the combo.
  5. Automatic vs. Manual Sales Split

    😂 That thing is awesome!
  6. Automatic vs. Manual Sales Split

An auto has more losses due to the torque converter and the fluid it has to pump to make it work. You start out somewhat behind (this is greatly improved with modern autos and locking torque converters, but it's still there). The current jl is slightly faster with the 3.6 in a manual (motor...
  7. Automatic vs. Manual Sales Split

I also have owned a number of motorcycles and mt vehicles. I actually think the ideal manual would be a dog box sequential like a motorcycle (and many racing vehicles). Sadly I think the chance to get acceptance for that has long passed. Motor trend tested the gladiator 3.6 auto and manual and...
  8. Automatic vs. Manual Sales Split

It's still lighter, cheaper, more efficient, and faster (slim margins, but still). It also does exactly what you want, not what you request (as in the auto in manual mode).
  9. Toe in gave me Death Wobble

Toe in will tend to make dw worse, so that completely makes sense. Ideal for jl is around 1/8" toe out. However, if you're getting dw more from hits on one side instead of the other, I'd look at ball joints. I chased dw issues all over until I finally bit the bullet and replaced ball joints...
  10. Two door itch is real

I was in the process of ordering a two door when I found a 4 door on the lot with the same specs, at almost the same price. The problem is, I now almost have to have the space, even if I didn't have kids, due to all the gear I haul around (fishing/kayaking/hunting/biking etc). If they...
  11. Rubicon vs sport suspension height?

Clearance for tires has nothing to do with the space around the wheel at ride height. It about where everything ends up when fully compressed. Take out the springs and cycle the suspension with a jack, that's what will tell you if you've got clearance, and changes to that will be governed by...
  12. Occasional DW….

So, I have the same temp sensitive death wobble, and I replaced the steering damper with an aftermarket unit. It solved it for a while, but the death wobble is still there, and I suspect the temp sensitivity has more to do with the plastic on plastic bushings than the damper. I'm in the process...
  13. Rubicon vs sport suspension height?

The suspension doesn't make any difference in tire clearance between sport/Rubicon/Willys. The bumps are all the same. The difference in tire clearance is the fenders.
  14. Who is taking their Jeep hunting this season? (Warning, here be hunting pics)

A fellow kayak duck hunter! This was yesterday's youth/veteran hunt (I don't have pictures of it actually on the jeep)
  15. 20’s or 22’s which to choose and why?

22s. I hate it when a caprice classic rolls up with bigger rims than I've got..... In all seriousness, 17s unless you can fit 16s... Anything bigger is heavier with less sidewall. Literally no upside. As others have said, it's the angry eyes of wheel choices.
  16. Death Wobble Poll

So I spent $80 and replaced the steering damper with an aftermarket one. What a world of difference! When I pulled the old damper off it was obvious why. There's a slight bit of play in the stock damper where there's essentially no damping. I'd guess that's a cause of a lot of these issues.
  17. Who is taking their Jeep hunting this season? (Warning, here be hunting pics)

For archery I felt like I needed to do it the real way, but I hardcore cheat during muzzleloader (scoped cva accura shooting sabots with bh209.... Basically a single shot rifle). I do wish more hunters would try out the joys (and frustration) of a single string. It really gives an...
  18. 6th Gear?

The manual already is geared lower, albeit on the transmission and not the diffs. 1st gear is lower than the auto 1st, and 6th is lower than 8th in the auto. I can see 4.10s, but I don't find the gearing to be bad at all with 3.45s and 33's.
  19. Death Wobble Poll

Ok I thought I was insane.... I noted dw was only an issue when it was cool out. I might just have to swap dampers and see where I'm at.
  20. Jumperless Aux Battery Bypass

Ok, this is still bugging me, since no matter the configuration, the jeep should only be seeing one (good) battery. Once the "service ESS" error is tripped, does it need a code reader or otherwise in order for it to reset? Thanks for all the help on this btw, this forum is awesome!
