You are correct. Cross bars was a poor choice of wording on my end. There are support bars that run left to right under the pioneer platform. The feet attach to those. Shoot me a PM, I may be able to get you a better price on the platform

Tried it yesterday and it works. It does not however seem to be full feature and you can only pan and zoom out so far. I don't see a way to drop pins or record a route or any of that stuff. Great for following a route I suppose but I'm not sure it's going to replace a separate tablet for me...

I think they are worthless too and don’t use them for the same reason, I’m afraid they will sag and I’ll hate them more. I wish at the very least they were molle like the back of the seats. Then they would be somewhat useful.
