  1. New JL Steering Issue TSB 08-074-20 (for "Improved Steering Feel")

I had THE WORST steering on my 2019 JLUS and got all the TSBs done which did very little. The updated steering box was an improvement in steering consistency (ambient temp used to affect the old box a lot) but it did not really fix the problem of wandering and the wide dead spot on center. What...
  2. New JL Steering Issue TSB 08-074-20 (for "Improved Steering Feel")

Had a long convo with FCA this morning about the new steering gearbox replacement. The new gearbox is made of IRON rather than aluminum. This sounds like the fix we have needed. The guy from FCA was great and called me out of the blue. He preordered the part so that it would be ready when I...
  3. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

I have mine at less than 5 ft. lbs. but finding the right torque was a trial and error thing
  4. Loose Steering is NORMAL for the JL

I am yes. The only thing I’ve changed is the stabilizer shock. Other than that it’s totally stock.
  5. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

I was experiencing pretty severe bump steer and “directional pull” and this has lessened that behavior a lot. I agree about the dead spot mystery, perhaps that is a placebo effect but it certainly seems to help in a perceptible way. I actually look forward to driving it now.
  6. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

The factory specs call for 59 ft. lbs. of torque. Mine are at <5 ft. lbs.
  7. Loose Steering is NORMAL for the JL

Those are the ones I loosened. But be careful about loosening too much. If you hear a clacking when going over bumps they are too loose. You also don’t want these to further loosen with time so once you figure out the right amount of torque, get some breakable loctite in there to keep them in place.
  8. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

The bolts at the bottom of the sway bar links shown in the photos are what I loosened. They are not LOOSE mind you. They’re not going anywhere (I put some breakable loctite in there) and there is no clanking when I go over bumps. But they are not super tight to allow the bushings to move and...
  9. Loose Steering is NORMAL for the JL

I have been battling this problem since I got my JLUS. I have had all TSBs (steering stabilizer and track bar) completed. That didn't fix the problem. I found that lowering tire pressure to 35psi helps a bit but not enough. I had the dealership change the gearbox out for the AE unit and that...
  10. Question regarding the Windsheld defrost

I experienced this Jeep quirk here in Chicago last week during a proper snowstorm. The snow and ice just stuck to the blades and only the center of the windshield was getting heat. As a quick and dirty fix I pulled up the rubber insert from the dash tray and placed it over the center defroster...
