Steering box TSB was completed on my Jeep JL yesterday. It is a 2019 JLUR and lifted with Metalcloak 2.5 on offset 35's. Told the dealer it wandered slightly and felt loose. There were no objections and they ordered the box for me. It took two weeks. After having this completed yesterday, I...
It works great! Very low SWR = 1.02 - 1.04 for both antennas!
Obviously, MXT-275 radio, mount, and microphone holder are in the package.
Wide zip ties to attach the mount and some narrow zip ties to dress up the wiring.
The NMO mount is the PCTEL A/S - 3/4" Hole Thick Roof Mount. I did...
I will start off and say that it is super tight to the dash even though what I am about to describe will sound like a bush fix. I removed the glove box door and found a way to snake two 1/2 inch wide zip ties through the slots in the mount and some metal work below the dash. I was going to do...
One more comment, I also bought a second antenna for running around town and a longer antenna for out on the trail. This is the short antenna, also a No Ground Plane antenna. With the NMO mount you can change out the antenna in 30 seconds.
Final comment, I decided to mount the head unit under the dash so I could hear the speaker, but more out of the way where I didn't have to drill a hole in the dash.
I also decided to use the microphone mount that came with the radio without any additional hardware, but I scraped off the adhesive on the back and used stronger double-sided adhesive. I like the look and the location of the microphone directly on the dash.
Hey all, I took a few different turns on my install. For starters, I decided to use the hinge reinforcement mount using a NMO mount and using a No Ground Plane antenna. I decided to do this since there are so few ground plane surfaces on the Jeep. This seemed like a good call. The Hinge Mount...
Loving my new lift! MetalCloak 2.5 with 35s - It is just tall enough to let the 35's really stretch out and do their things. I did this with 37s in mind, but it is so capable now, I can't imagine going to 37s even though I know I will someday.
In the end, this worked. No leaks. I hit it with the hose and everything is tight. I haven't driven through a car wash, but the seals seem tight and no different than when I started. Attached is a picture of the roof closed and how uniform and tight the seam is on top. Also here is a picture...
Step 4 - Gently raise the roof - The roof only needs to lift at the front about 1 inch to slide in the handles. You need to keep it raised while you remove and attach the handles. I used a trim removal tool to hold the roof up while I worked on this.
Step 5 - Install the handles - Requires a...
Step 3 - Loosen 4 bolts and remove 2 bolts. I was able to do this by loosening all the bolts, but the play that was needed required the front two bolts (one on the rails and one on the latch) to be removed. Here are pictures of all 6 bolts.
OK, I did it. I read this thread 12 times before I finally had the guts to touch the untouchable, Sky One-Touch Roof and install the Mopar handles. As requested, here are some more pictures and my comments.
Step 1 - Tools - T-30 Torque bits for the Sky One-Touch rails and T-25 Torque bit to...
Today I installed the Warn Winch Plate and the Smittybilt X20 10K winch. Loved the weight and strength of the Warn plate. It was a great install with really tight tolerances that don't look like they are going to fit until they just do. In the end, an easy install. The Smittybilt fits...
