  1. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

Toe is measured in degrees either positive or negative from the straight centerline of the tire. Jeep wranglers are toe in (positive toe).
  2. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

Yes it can and will cause "scrubbing" of the outer edge of the tire if toe in is excessive. The 0.34 total toe in recommended by FCA is not according to them.
  3. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

The only alignment change that can be adjusted is the toe and it is usually not right from the factory. The total toe per FCA Help Desk is 0.34 - 0.36. The upper limit is 0.40.
  4. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

Just curious; did you increase caster at all?? The biggest improvement in wandering for me was a caster of 7.
  5. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

I think the AT tires do help, especially if they are larger than the 245/75/17's mine had. Caster is the biggie here that I have found. Mine is at 7 and I'm happy. The ~1" play in the wheel is no contest now.
  6. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

These issues with the JL's and many other FCA vehicles is their own doing by using the lowest bidder for parts and then pressuring them to go lower, because you see we will be using over a million of these parts and we need your better price. Inevitably the price pressuring cuts the overall...
  7. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

Did you increase caster to 7 and total toe to 0.34 ??? These are the two best things to do for wandering issues. Of course making sure the steering components are torqued correctly and the track bar was replaced. Gearbox replacement is a crapshoot if you will get a good one or not. Chinese...
  8. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

The track bar was a small part of larger fix for me. The replacement Mopar track bar is still tubular. Ugh. I'm convinced there is no one magic bullet to fix the JL's, but rather a combination of changes, each contributing to a total. All my changes here...
  9. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

Your toe is probable way off from the factory and these JL's need 2 deg more caster to track straight over 50 MPH. Jeep will adjust the toe, but do NOTHING to increase the caster. First thing dealer tech did with mine was contact the Jeep Help Desk and they walked him through what they wanted...
  10. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

Fortunately my gearbox play is small when compared to many others; about 1-1.5". The wandering issues I corrected don't eliminate the play but render it less noticeable because I'm not having to make constant course corrections. It was insane, especially when it was windy. Now I'm only dealing...
  11. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

Since increasing my caster to 7, total toe to 0.34 and replacing the track bar, I now enjoy driving my 2018 JLU again. Jeep Cares did their best for me, even reimbursed me for my aftermarket RC track bar. Did not want my dealer to touch my Jeep again. Heck, they did not even install the...
  12. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

Agreed... The steering issues need to be highlighted & that is a great way to do it. The squeaky wheel gets the oil
  13. Updated front trackbar with stiffer bushings coming to help cure STEERING issues 68394087AA

Adjustable LCA's are one way to increase caster, but I went a different route. I wanted to do a minimal lift on my JLU, so went with a Rough Country 2.5" suspension lift. I also wanted to keep the ride as close to stock as I could and needed to increase caster. Preserving the ride necessitated...
  14. Updated front trackbar with stiffer bushings coming to help cure STEERING issues 68394087AA

After doing my research about the steering problems and analyzing my JLU problems, I determined I had two issues. One was wandering and the second play in the steering wheel. I addressed the worst of the two which was the wandering. The track bar replacement was the smaller part of my wandering...
  15. Updated front trackbar with stiffer bushings coming to help cure STEERING issues 68394087AA

The replacement track bar I saw was the same as the original except for the bushings. Definitely NOT solid. With that realization I went and picked up a Rough Country SOLID track bar for $149. Twice the weight of the Mopar part.
  16. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

Yes. FCA Help Desk to the dealer techs now recommends a total toe of 0.34 +
  17. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

Biggest improvement for me was CASTER. Went from 5 to 7 and now am 95% happy with highway driving. Gearbox still has some "play" but the unacceptable wandering is gone and makes the gearbox play less noticeable. Aftermarket track bar helped but best improvement was caster. 2018 JLU
  18. New TSB JL 2018 2019: Vehicle wanders requires constant small steering corrections - New Track Bar

I have increased my caster to 7 and toe to 0.34 total along with a Rough Country track bar and finally my 2018 JLU is about 95% perfect. Also went from the 245/75/17 tires to 285/70/17. Trying to drive it over 50 before was too much "work" to keep it in my lane, but now it is It's where it...
  19. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

You must have had a bad day Travis. I was stating what my experience was as I was just trying to help. After owning an XJ for many years and replacing two gearboxes when tightening the lash, it tightened the tolerance but still had "play" in the wheel. If tightened too far the steering wheel...
  20. To lift or not

This is the way I went and could not be happier. Definite improvement in overall driving feeling and handling with the perfect amount of lift for me. Installed Rough Country 2.5" suspension lift ($450). Added Rancho geometry brackets ($175) that did two things; first, kept the lower control...
