  1. Could my ball joints really be bad at 16k miles?

It wasn't trouble getting the unibearing/axel separated from the knuckle, it was getting the knuckle off the two ball joints. Left the castle nuts on to catch it and just pounded on them with a deadblow. Knew I was going to toss the aluminum knuckles so wasn't so worried but would have been...
  2. Could my ball joints really be bad at 16k miles?

Followup: Did the ball joints / knuckles / drag link / tie rod this weekend. My factory BJs were definitely the culprit, despite having only ~4k miles with 37s (16k miles total). The passenger lower balljoint was frankly loose and clicking, with a lot of translation side to side and back and...
  3. 2021 Jeep Manual Transmission

I'm going to go contrary to many of the posters here. I ordered a 2 dr Rubicon tailored to exactly what I wanted. The one thing I wish I could change would be getting the auto vs manual. The clutch in this Jeep sucks. The pedal is very soft (hydro assist) and there is very little pedal...
  4. What suspension and tires are you running with your AEV JL wheels???

good point on 8.5, just checkedthe aev website. I wish I had the c range 37s, but they weren’t available a year ago when I got mine (e range). Oh well.
  5. What suspension and tires are you running with your AEV JL wheels???

aev Wheels have higher backspacing but they’re also 17x9 instead of 17x7.5 like stock so the inside lip of the wheel is in the exact same spot as the inside lip of a stock wheel. For suspension rubbing issues there’s no diff between aev wheels and stock. Of course w a wider rim and tire the...
  6. What suspension and tires are you running with your AEV JL wheels???

they supply lift parts that are compatible w wheels w stock or equiv backspacing. I think it has to do with sway bar links and maybe shock mounts, but I obviously don’t have the kit for wheels w less backspacing so impossible to know the details exactly. I’m sure they can tell you the diff if...
  7. What suspension and tires are you running with your AEV JL wheels???

No spacers, that was whole point of aev wheels. Dont remember how much bump stop I used, I think 2”?
  8. What suspension and tires are you running with your AEV JL wheels???

I have the AEV wheels, and am running a MC gamechanger 2.5". When you order the MC lift you can specify what your backspacing is and they send you parts that work with that (I chose the stock option, since the AEV wheels have the back face at same location as stock wheels). Everything works...
  9. Could my ball joints really be bad at 16k miles?

Thanks, already plan to loosen and retorque everything (checking bushings, etc during process), so that should address everything you mentioned.
  10. Could my ball joints really be bad at 16k miles?

Definitely, and part of the reason I went with the AEV wheels which have backspacing in same spot to keep back rim same as stock (they are 1" wider though so there is a bit of increased lever arm). Another bonus is not getting tickets in MN for tire not covered by fender flares, which they're...
  11. Could my ball joints really be bad at 16k miles?

Thank you so much. Agree don't love orange. Any other parts I need to order (bolts etc) or is everything a straight swap. So far: -MC complete steering setup (drag link, tie rod, stabilizer, stab bracket) -Dynatrac HD BJs + install kit -Mojave steering knuckles
  12. Could my ball joints really be bad at 16k miles?

Argh. Ok. Recommend the Mopar ones over the Reid? Look about similar price. Could you confirm these part numbers if you happen to have records (totally understand if not).
  13. Could my ball joints really be bad at 16k miles?

worth doing for onroad only driving?
  14. Could my ball joints really be bad at 16k miles?

Whats the advantage to doing iron knuckles?
  15. Could my ball joints really be bad at 16k miles?

Thanks for the input everyone. Just went ahead an ordered the MC full steering setup and Dynatrac BJs. Should be a "fun" weekend of installation in a month or so. Will circle back when done.
  16. Could my ball joints really be bad at 16k miles?

Tire was only out of balance for initial 50 miles or so then drove perfectly for 4k miles afterward. Will retorque everything this weekend, but nothing is frankly loose so I'm not optimistic for an easy fix. And even then, I don't wheel so if something in the factory tie rod/drag link, etc was...
  17. Could my ball joints really be bad at 16k miles?

2019 JLR -Stock for first 11500 miles -Steering stabilizer recall done at <4000 miles -Cast iron steering box TSB done at 11500 miles right before lift (wanted to do before mods so they couldn't deny based on mods) -Metalcloak game changer 2.5" lift installed by me at 11500 miles, 37 ATKO2s on...
  18. Clutch Recall (FCA W12 | 20V-124) on 2018-2020 JL Manuals [overheating clutch pressure plate]

I guess this is they type of service to expect when you buy a $50k vehicle from a dealership selling mostly $25k piece of junk chryco sedans and minivans. Was almost looking forward to the “discussion” about what they’d give me as a loaner when they kept my jeep for a few weeks (for the day...
  19. Clutch Recall (FCA W12 | 20V-124) on 2018-2020 JL Manuals [overheating clutch pressure plate]

Brought mine in yesterday, hadn't read this thread. Called last week and asked if they had parts in and they said yes, so assumed I was good. Dropped Jeep off and as the tech is driving it out the service writer says "yea we have one of these thats been here 3 weeks waiting for parts"...
  20. Replacement covers for Mopar roof rack?
