  1. Jeep died in traffic

Final update: got the Jeep back, runs great. They are stating that it was an "open Z fuse array" that caused the issue, but both batteries were near the end of their life, i.e. tested weak. So, mystery solved I guess. I'm going to do more reading on this Z fuse array.... Unfortunately, they hit...
  2. Jeep died in traffic

I'll look into getting a trickle charger. I figured since I drove it everyday that batteries were getting a constant use and no need to charge. But there have been times where I haven't driven for 3+ weeks, so I think i should charge them in times like that.
  3. Jeep died in traffic

I figured as much... it's pricey, and I could certainly do it myself for cheaper, but there are times when circumstances dictate someone else should do it. Just lucky I wasn't towing the camper down a winding road when it happened!
  4. Jeep died in traffic

So that is exactly the scenario, i was baffled by the precipitating factor which was simply engaging ESS. I was driving, going 20 or so mph, and coming to a stoplight I pressed the ESS button, which would have made it ACTIVE. I was driving straight, I had the clutch pressed in as I was coasting...
  5. Jeep died in traffic

Well, I heard from the dealer, and it's gonna be a fix to the tune of $700...... sheesh.... live and learn I suppose. I've never had to take it anywhere since the warranty got used up, and I was away from my home base so I chose what seemed like a good dealer in Ohio. They've been responsive and...
  6. Jeep died in traffic

It's currently at a decent Jeep dealer, I'll make sure when they call to say that I'd like BOTH batteries replaced. Thanks!
  7. Jeep died in traffic

2019 JLU Sport S, manual trans, 100,000 miles on it. I was driving home and, although I almost always have ESS turned off, I decided in heavy traffic to just turn it back on (I'd been driving all day and was bored). Well, as soon as I pushed the ESS button, the engine cut out (I was going abt...
  8. 5 quarts enter, 4 quarts leave

I'm convinced my asymptomatic oil usage is hinting at deeper problems for this 3.6L manual trans JLUS wrangler with 74,000 miles on it. I've read several similar posts, but im still concerned. I have owned it since new and done all of the oil changes. In the beginning, I changed oil religiously...
  9. THE STEERING BOX JUST FAILED ON MY.... TRACTOR!

Sorry for the clickbait title, couldn't resist. I was hoping to haul some firewood out of rough backwoods areas and continue prepping for the winter when I found that after almost 70 years, my 1952 Ford 8N steering box finally failed! And unfortunately, that little Ford is the only implement I...
  10. Winch Cable Repair

Just as a resource, I'm adding some reading that I did on selecting a cable or synthetic rope and considerations to keep in mind. https://www.roundforge.com/articles/all-about-winch-cable/#Standard_Winch_Cable_Strengths_ Again, appreciate the pointers I have gotten from other forum members here 🎯
  11. Winch Cable Repair

^^^ that's the straight talk I need to hear. I'm just going to full on replace the cable, and make it a habit to inspect it and maintain it just as I do with all the other important regular maintenance. I'm going to go with a new cable for the simple fact that I use the winch more for utility...
  12. Winch Cable Repair

Alright, new cable it is then. You're right, it's not worth the risk. A little bummed to only have gotten 2~ ish years of use out of it, but it served its purpose. I'm going to read up on here about cable vs synthetic rope and see which way to go.
  13. Winch Cable Repair

I see no reason that I cannot repair this well used winch cable by removing the first 3 feet or so that is getting too rusty for my liking and creating another hook loop by looping the cable back on itself and securing it with several heavy duty cable clamps. I know a better option is to buy...
  14. Another issue. 4 hi

Just for reference, this video has a great explanation of how 4WD works vs AWD, and the mechanics behind why it's not a good idea to utilize 4WD on high traction surfaces like pavement. I think the manual also states that you should focus on broad, sweeping turns in 4WD and avoid sharp turns if...
  15. Security Related Accessories / Theft Prevention

All good options, but as others have said: if people want in, they will get in. Best option in my book is to leave all the valuables out of the Jeep and not lock the center console. If anyone breaks into the jeep to gain access, they won't think twice about snapping the plastic handles and locks...
  16. Rear Axle Replacement 42k Miles

Do you have a recording of the sound at all? I'm at 57,000, JLUS M/T and have had a similar slight clunk noise at takeoff... but I've had this noise since about 3,000 miles, and it is hit or miss, never affects the driving characteristics. I chalked it up to just being "one of those things, no...
  17. Oil consumption 3.6l v6

Having a similar issue with my 2019 JLUS 4door, manual transmission. I have about 56,000 miles on it. Last oil change was about 8,000 miles ago; I normally change every 5,000 but decided to go by the oil life range on the dash cluster. By that reading, 8,000 miles still showed I had 11% left...
  18. Now I’m worried

I mean, depends on WHY you are buying a wrangler and how you plan to drive it. For someone like me who had never owned a Jeep prior to my 2019 JLU Sport, I initially wanted the off road capability and to have a fun machine that can be topless, doorless, etc and offer a wide range of driving...
