SmartStopStop was life changing. ESS just worked terribly, at least in a stick JL. No fun to have the engine turn off right when you hit the clutch to start from a stop and have the engine stay off. Crazy annoying and borderline unsafe.
I didn't. I have an amp under one. The sub just took up too much footroom for the backseat passengers. I fold my seats down constantly so I didn't want anything that would impede that.
I installed a Kicker Hideaway 8" Powered sub in the storage area under the back floor a little over a year ago. I used security screws to secure it to the bottom of the bin. Not perfect, but hopefully prevents the basic knucklehead from easily getting it out. Really happy with the bass from it...

I suspect you are having a similar issue where the resistance is changing with temperature and you are just a bit over the threshold for the radio to be happy. I...
Yes, I've been running with them for a while now. What part are you interested in hearing more about? The install was pretty straightforward. After you figure out how to wire through the passenger firewall grommet, it was pretty easy. I drilled a hole low on my dash under the headlight control...
One note about the Kicker amp with build in DSP. I installed the 4 ch version and what I found was that at even moderate volume it will "reboot" when ESS restarts the vehicle meaning the sound cuts out for about a second. I think it gets into an undercurrent / undervoltage state. I tried a bunch...
I'm glad you were able to solve the problem. I went through exactly the same issue ((my post: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/adding-an-aftermarket-amp-s.6568/page-11#post-635072)
What resistance did you end up using and at what power rating? I used two 47 ohm 5W resistors in...
I just completed my install of all new speakers, amplifier, and powered sub. Thanks to Sting and everyone else who contributed to this thread. I also wanted to pass along a solution to an issue I had that I haven’t seen addressed here or elsewhere.
Quick overview of the install first. I started...
Does anyone have any experience with the Kicker IQ500.4? It looks like it might be a decent solution since it accepts speaker level inputs and has built in DSP. https://www.kicker.com/iq5004-4-channel-amplifier
Good thoughts. The one thing I definitely missed was that a bass blocker on the soundbar speakers would impact the subwoofer since I tapped those wire. Good catch.
I'm reluctant to install an amp based on what I've ready here. It looks like a bit of a hassle since most have described the need...
I asked this in a new post last week but didn't get any responses. I'm posing again here since it is directly relevant to your questions:
I have 5" uconnect (it's so awful) and standard speakers. I installed a Kicker Hideaway sub this weekend and it has definitely improved the sound. I had also...
I have 5" uconnect (it's so awful) and standard speakers. I installed a Kicker Hideaway sub this weekend and it has definitely improved the sound. I had also replaced the four 2.5" with Kicker 77KICK25AB. Again, good improvement.
The overall sound is still not as good as I'd like. I would like...
Here's my run through of getting a wire through the passenger grommet from the Lighting forum. Maybe it will help:

I installed Oracle Halo lights a few weeks ago along with their LED headlight bulbs. I like the halos a lot. They are very bright, but be aware they are definitely have a bluish-white color.
I have a Sport, so no DRLs. I tied the halos into the heated seat fuse using a fuse tap. That port gets...
I just completed this exact project yesterday. I have a JL Sport, so no DRLs either. I wired them to a fuse tap feeding the heated seat fuse - F57 (you'll need a micro2 style to do this, not the mini size you show)...
