No need, you can update it installed from your cell phone. You connect to your carplay2air via WiFi then enter the IP address.
Instructions below are for connecting directly to it but it can be done via WiFi connection.

Awesome, have a safe road trip, and I hope everything works out!! I know the cplay2air is hit and miss for some people, which is unfortunate. A ton of these things have hit the market since the OP.
No idea why it didn’t show the pictures before. But to your other question, I’m sure there are other ground locations you can use. It’s just an option.
