I am a little late at responding here. You probably thought of the following but here are some comments:
The retainer washer is probably making it hard to get the bolt started in the nut. It might help to chisel, drill, or bend retainer washer tabs out of the way. But do so without damaging the...
Next?... @Steveo?
I installed my ACE sliders yesterday without a hitch. Mostly because of the shared information by everyone here in the forum (including ACE Engineering) and exercising a fair amount of patience. Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences and lessons learned. Your...
@Steveo
Good find in the video of brake cleaner and red threadlocker. Thanks.
Wow, what a bummer about the dent. Looks like I just got pushed to the front of the slider install line. I should be able to break a bolt before the dealer fixes that dent.
Thanks Steveo. Yes, I had found those videos too. I thought you would have to get to 550 F to melt the red threadlock. I do not know about the melting temperature of the rubber bushings. Tire rubber is over 1000 F. Definitely worth thinking about.
Are you going for your install now? Good...
I'm glad you were successful! Thanks for the added information. I was pinning my hopes on heating the bolts to melt the glue before using "brute force" to loosen them. I've been concerned about heating them too much so that I get metal on metal binding. My confidence on this install has...
The only video I have seen is for a slider installation on a 2011 JK. If it were only that easy as shown in that video. Is there a video for a JL I am missing?
There is no mention of avoiding breaking bolts, bolt torque specs, thread lock issues, captured nuts coming loose, prying on the...
That sucks. I have read in another thread where a dealer mechanic came in from above, after making a hole in the floor, to remove a broken bolt. Maybe you can do the same to get the nut back on?
Steveo, are you going to do the install soon? I was going to try a heat gun to warm the bolts and thus the thread lock to try and make them easier to remove. I am interested in someone trying it to hear if it works.
