I was using the sport rack foam blocks and strapping them to the kayaks, and used that for transport on hard top and roll bars.
Roll bars 30 miles hwy a number of timds and hardtop from Chicago to Canada. Only issue is the straps drip in anything more than a bit of rain.
Still use the blocks...
Extra holes drilled in the backbone frame around the window, a trimmed washer (hole is right at the angle for the support), and new connection bolts/a few washers at the bottom for the additional height.
RhinoRack backbone, Pioneer Tray, and Thule dock glide and hullaport aero with a maximus 3 ladder modified to fit just for giggles.
Just installed today and test drove. Will head 40 miles with 2 tomorrow and report on wind noise.
For me, it would be way above the static weight rating, and I'm sure even further outside of the dynamic rating in high wind at highway speed. Between the cost of replacement hardtop and the two kayaks, that's over $10k of exposure. Personally, i dpnt want tp chance it.
They are nice, but imagining trying to park on the Chicago lakefront and figure i either wont be find a spot, or if I do the trailer will be gone when I get back.
Managed to load mine up today without a ladder, so I think it will work for this season.
Pleasant surprise that I found humorous...
For S&G, I watched my mileage with my kayak on top of the JLUR. They say generally you will have 25% decrease in fuel efficiency for a single yak and rack on the roof. Mine increased about 7.5%.
The Sport Rack 18" foam block has held up so far, but lugging this beast up a step stool will only be temporary. Will have to move to a roller/slider/hullivator once the right rack option is released because hw wau you have to grab the combing when setting it down or picking it up is a bear...
