  1. JL in Europe

Euro NCAP today released the results of the Wrangler JL's testing. It scored just one star. Alongside the Fiat Panda and Fiat Punto, it ranks as one of the three lowest rated vehicles ever tested. Matthew Avery, Director of Research at Thatcham said: "Unlike the FIAT Panda, the Jeep Wrangler...
  2. Will the US 2019 Rubicon get Selec-trac, like the EU version?

Exactly. Here in the UK, all JLs have Selec-Trac whether we like it or not, even though FCA confuses matters by calling it Command-Trac in the Sport and Sahara and Rock-Trac in the Rubicon. They're all still the Selec-Trac transfer case, although in the Rubicon it has a 4:1 low ratio...
  3. My Appreciation for Fiat

Jeeps have been available in other markets for decades, so I'm not sure why you think FCA deserve the credit for that. And as for the price, here in the UK the price of the JK doubled under FCA's ownership, and now you can buy three Suzuki Jimnys for the price of a JL.
  4. JL in Europe

Typical FCA UK. Elsewhere in Europe, petrol and diesel models are priced the same. In the UK, the petrol *should* be slightly cheaper because it pays a lower rate of first year road tax. The petrol model is due in December.
  5. Looks like UK Jeeps have Offroad Pages...

This was filmed as the European press launch event. We're not expecting it to arrive any time soon so I doubt any UK spec vehicles have even been built yet.
  6. JL in Europe

Curious to know where you've seen this. I've heard it will have conventional D44 in the rear, and whatever the 'regular' axle is in the front. No mention of axle ratios. Selec-Trac also suggests CV joints at axle ends, not UJs. Selec-Trac (in the US JL, anyway) uses the MP3022 transfer case...
  7. JL in Europe

The release contradicts itself hence why I asked for clarification. The clarification that came in response was that it was wrong, and that only the full time t-case would be offered. I’d love nothing more than for that to be wrong, but I think that’s just wishful thinking. As you say, next...
  8. JL in Europe

Hate to post bad news, but I've been told by an FCA PR contact that all JLs in the EMEA region will come with the full-time transfer case, i.e. Selec-Trac. No Command-Trac, no Rock-Trac. I've asked them to confirm this effectively means the death of Rubicon in EMEA, but because I'm a journo...
  9. Definitely no manual 2.0 turbos, right?

While that's true of conventional hybrids, it isn't true for BSG systems. There's no engineering reason why a BSG system can't be mated to a manual.
  10. JL in Europe

Think that’s just typical Fiat Europe press office not knowing anything about their Jeep brand.
  11. Confirmed: 2019 JL Sahara 2-Door (U.S. bound?)

Could be either; at this point, EU spec is anybody's guess. Interesting that it appears to have a lip around the edge of the flares. Could be for aerodynamic reasons, but might also be because some markets have a minimum radius on sharp edges.
  12. Confirmed: 2019 JL Sahara 2-Door (U.S. bound?)

Yup, front licence plate holder gives it away, as well as the mirror turn signals. Interesting to see it has LED headlights, though; I did wonder if they would end up being US market only. Would have been even more interesting to see inside so we could establish if it had Selec-Trac or not.
  13. Little things you discovered on your JL

I'm curious - to the people who prefer to put a metal key in a hole and turn it, what exactly do you think that does? As soon as you turn that key, it activates a sh*t-ton of electronics, and that's been the case for decades. Since Wranglers have had a chip in the key since about 1998 with very...
  14. Amber rear turn signals.

You don't say exactly where you're moving to, but if it's anywhere like here in the UK you may have to change a lot more than just the rear lights - headlights, front turn signals, add a rear fog light, potentially change tyres, maybe even window glass and speedo depending on where you're going...
  15. Australian JL options different

Must have missed this thread the first time around. Echoes what I'd been hearing, and we tend to get largely the same spec as you guys. If this turns out to be true, that a Rubicon won't even have Rock-Trac and is therefore completely worthless, then I'm out.
  16. Finally got to see one in person - brief review

Conventional hybrids definitely work better as an auto (usually a CVT because it allows a planetary gear set to combine output from gas/diesel engine and electric motor) but the beauty of the mild hybrid set up is that the electric motor usually outputs it’s torque via the ‘front’ of the gas...
  17. Finally got to see one in person - brief review

Last one I drove was the Suzuki Ignis, probably not available in the US. System worked well.
  18. Finally got to see one in person - brief review

There are plenty of mild hybrids on the market with a manual transmission, it’s entirely possible.
  19. BRIGHT WHITE Wrangler JL Club

That little fella is exactly what I'm waiting for... just in RHD. Thanks for posting these. :like:
  20. Photos of Off-Road Pages on Uconnect 8.4 Display?

This happened before with the Grand Cherokee. Eventually a TSB was issued to cover a software update, although some vehicles needed a more complex procedure before they would accept that an update was available: http://www.wk2jeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk2_0807917a.pdf The more people contact Customer...
