  1. A word about EOC’s tunes/deletes

As I’m sure plenty of you are nearing your federal emissions warranty being up or just want the power/torque and sound from a tune, I’ll share some cautionary advice from a good friend who has been dealing with EOC. If you live in a state that runs OBD2 checks for CEL status to pass inspection...
  2. Dempster Highway to Tuktoyaktuk

Moved back to Alaska from New England over the last couple weeks. Part of the 6150 mile run in my 2020 JLURD was a detour of 1100 miles to run the Dempster Highway to the Arctic Ocean at Tuktoyaktuk and back to Dawson City, then AK via the Top of the World Highway. Having done the Dalton to...
  3. AEV 3.0 Snorkel Causing P04DB CEL

Second trip with the snorkel installed, I get the P04DB code. No visible issues with the crankcase vent hose and the timing of the code seems much more likely airflow related. Folks have reported this code after air filters weren’t reinstalled, which yields increased pressure in the CCV...
  4. Cold weather testing in the arctic

Went to the arctic circle over the weekend to push the JLURD for its second run on the Dalton Highway and came back impressed. Insights galore… 1. I’ve been running a radiator cover in AK for the last couple winters…basically above 10F, not needed, 0-10F nice to have, below zero, definitely...
  5. Cautionary tale regarding axle shafts...

Sooo my rear axle shaft flanges are bent at 20,000 miles... I’ll preface this by saying the diesel engine/emissions equipment weight is far from the only factor involved. While my AEV Borahs and Pintlers are relatively close to OEM backspacing, they’re strapped with 37” and 35” rubber...
  6. Is this a bent axle flange or warped rotor?

3.0 Rubicon, 20k miles, about 2000 miles of which have been off-road on every surface and at every speed you can think of. I started getting vastly increased driveline noise from the rear axle after swapping back to my 37s from 35” snows. No rotor squeaks or pedal pulsations involved but...
  7. Who can ID this 3.0 fluid?

Went to put on my steersmarts track bar and noticed this piece of the passenger side of the engine with some sort of dried fluid on it. It looks like it never made it down to the oil pan and definitely hasn’t dripped to the ground. No obvious source above this. Any ideas?
  8. Winter grille cover

As much as it pains me to cover up the most iconic grille in the industry, my 3.0 often could not reach operating temperature at the end of last Winter when it was delivered. Anyone used a grille cover on theirs yet? The only one I’m seeing online is from FIA.
  9. DEF Injector Leak

I was tightening bolts under my 3.0 tonight after quite a few more miles off pavement and saw these crystals on the DEF injector. Nothing seems loose so it’s either a bad seal or a cracked housing if I had to guess. I do wonder if this is more common and a potential source of accelerated DEF...
  10. Wheeling in Denali National Park!

We got a clear weather report around Denali yesterday and decided to go explore the foothills. It turns out you can go far enough on 4 wheels from Petersville, AK to cross the park boundary and find the best views of the mountains to be had outside of an airplane. I’ve had the privilege of...
  11. Alaska’s Dalton Highway in a JLURD: Bucket List Material

Much has been written about the Dalton Highway. Having traversed many of the world’s most incredible roads, I can confirm this one is the crown jewel of the United States. Long story short, if you have the means, it’s a must for any serious Jeep enthusiast. Name a human emotion and this road...
  12. Post Your 3.0 Pics

I’ve been using the start of 3.0 production and 3.0 mods threads as dumping grounds for 3.0 pics but figured we need a place for random pics...here goes!
  13. Alaska Sold: New OEM LED Fog Lights (steel bumper) - $110 shipped

Unused takeoffs from dealer-ordered mopar steel bumper, swapped for BDs before bumper install. $110 including shipping to US addresses.
  14. Headlight high-beam splice point

Has anyone here tapped into the high-beam wire to run a relay for aftermarket lights? I’m looking to splice in that line to the BD harness for a couple LP9s so they only turn on when the oem high beams are activated. The wiring diagrams on here show the colors for the correct wires but I’m...
  15. Did Jeep Botch the JLUR 3.0 Payload Rating?

Sure seems like they did. Any thoughts as to how they managed to get such a large discrepancy? The TFL 3.0 even has the steel bumpers.
  16. $25,000-60,000+ tax deduction for JLUR 3.0L Diesel (GVWR just over 6,000 pounds)

@kre62 mentioned this in the TFL thread, but missed the fact that the Rubicon 3.0s will tip the GVWR just over 6k. Anyone planning to use section 179 on their JLUR 3.0 purchase? Details: https://seekingalpha.com/article/4306378-fiat-chrysler-jeep-introduces-25000-wrangler-tax-deduction Fiat...
  17. 3.0 Diesel Press Reviews

Jeep Wrangler JL/JLU EcoDiesel First Drive Reviews and Performance Specs
  18. Start of 3.0 Production

Jonathon Ramsey states 11/25 in his autoblog article without a source. No one else in the motoring press seems to report that date so either Jon has inside knowledge or it’s false. I’m not sure if it’s unprecedented to open order banks for a new engine option 7 weeks before it goes into...
  19. 3.0 Air Intake Likely to Complicate Snorkel/Raised Air Intakes

Anyone else notice the driver-side air intake on the 3.0? If snorkel/raised air intake manufacturers wanted to avoid redesigning exterior plumbing for the 3.0, routing the internal plumbing to the passenger side looks like a near impossibility with a number of items in the way. Likely to delay...
  20. GM Upping the 3.0 Ante...

https://www.autoblog.com/2019/03/26/2019-chevy-silverado-turbodiesel-power-price/ One has to wonder if the silver lining to all of the EPA certification delays for the FCA 3.0 will be a boost in HP/TQ to compete with the new Duramax 3.0. GM certainly just came out swinging with numbers like that.
