The old o-ring was very hard and brittle. I ended up replacing the oil filter and o-ring. No issues/leaks since!
If anyone is curious, the faulty o-ring came from the Purolator One oil filter (link) and I replaced it with FRAM Ultra (link). I have gone through several replacements and oil...
Thanks! I’ll give this a try next time.
I am more so concerned that there is something wrong with my torque wrench and it could happen again. Or is it possible I found the wrong torque spec? I cross referenced three different sites and they all said 48 lb ft.
Can anyone confirm that is...
Hi all, hoping to gain some insight. Today I changed my transfer case fluid which requires removing the transfer case skid plate. All went well except when I put the skid plate back on and went to torque the bolts/nuts to spec, one of the smaller nuts snapped off. I’m not too worried as the...
I just went in and pulled the filter off to see if the o-ring was pinched and it seemed fine (and for the record the cap didn’t seem overly tight). Then I cleaned the cap up a little and tightened it back down to spec (18 ft lb). After that I started the Jeep back up to try and see if any...
With how common this sounds it’s funny I never heard of it before! After more digging into the issue I found this: Upgraded Aluminum Engine Oil Filter Housing.
Likely much more reliable than the crappy OEM plastic one…
Hi all,
I went to check my oil today and it is showing very low if anything on the dipstick (see photo). I went to investigate to see if there are any leaks and I found what looks to be a leak right by the oil filter housing area (see photos). There appears to be oil coming out of the housing...
I just got the results for the oil analysis back! Looks like, yes, the oil was changed at the dealership, as the quantities of metals in the oil are very low for the pentastar engine. Additionally, the TBN came in at 4.7 indicating that there were still active additives remaining in the oil...
This is a sample report from blackstone labs. It looks like they make the numbers easily understandable to the regular person. Yes it would be better to compare the used oil to new, but I have no idea what kind of oil the dealership used. At least from this I will be able to see if there is...
I can attest to this. Got stuck once going snow wheeling and had to pay $400 for someone to come pull me out (which was actually pretty reasonable considering how remote my location was). If I had paid $400 to install a winch beforehand I wouldn’t have had to worry about it at all.
I don’t know why they would do it but yes it was overfilled. I measured the oil when I drained it out and there was 6 quarts in there. Either way I will have much more peace of mind doing my own oil changes from now on.
Thanks for the input! I always thought oil should stay golden colored for quite a while. I wonder what kind of oil they use at most dealers? I used Pennzoil full synthetic 0w-20 when I changed it so we will see how dark that gets.
I actually was planning on doing an oil analysis. I ordered...
Long story short, I went to get a “free” oil change done on my JLUS with the 3.6l a couple of weeks ago (see my other post) and they overfilled my oil. Not too surprised as this is seemingly a common occurrence.
It finally warmed up enough in Minnesota (went from -30 degrees to about 20 degrees...
I have a 2018 JLUS with the 3.6/8 speed.
This Saturday I went to my dealer to get an oil change and tire rotation using the free Jeep Wave Program oil changes. When I picked up my vehicle later that day I noticed that the service paperwork showed that 6 quarts of oil were added...
Now I am...
I would say you should get the cold weather group if you have to pick only one, especially if you are in a colder climate. I live in Minnesota where it gets VERY cold (got to -50F windchill last winter), and while the Jeep does heat up quickly it was nice to have the heated seats and steering...
