I was hoping for something that was no bolts. Turn a lever, pull a pin or a latch, something like that. Like lowering a soft top. Wishful thinking I guess.
No bolts around the JL windshield - does this mean it will actually be easier to fold down than the JK? I would drop mine more if it wasn't such a pain to do.
Watching the reveal live now, they really released it with the pillar-less soft top floating like a cloud over the rear and the holy half doors. ugh...
Aftermarket it is, then...
If they are doing them, I really hope they don't all have the stupid cut-out... looks like something you would see on a concept car that never makes it to production.
That makes more sense. On a positive note, waiting until 2019 MY to buy is probably smarter anyway given their history with bugs in first-year models...
Didn't they stop offering half doors in 2015 or 2016 though? I'm still rolling in my 2012 so I'm not sure on the details. I know if you were ordering a Rubi or Sahara you couldn't get one with half doors at all after 2015, but maybe still could have with other models. The design of the JL with...
A lot of options are being shown that won't actually be available until 2019 though, half doors may have just been pushed back and only scrapped for 2018. Either way, I hope you're right and he's wrong...
As of this morning 11/29/17, the sales manager at my local Jeep dealership said FCA has scrapped the half doors for JL's for the US market for 2018, and possibly indefinitely.
He said they will be manufactured for other countries (and thus could potentially be purchased separately as parts) but...
From the looks of the soft top design, you would still have to remove the rear and side windows manually ... which doesn't make sense to me. Putting the top up and down manually takes seconds, it's the side windows that are a pain in the ass.
So, what, you have to get out and remove the side...
I bought my JK with full doors and then bought Mopar half doors later. That $1,460 ends up being closer to $4,000 by the time you add in power locks, uppers, and paint (on a four door at least).
And since my full doors have been in the basement since getting the halfs on, I know that for me at...
I'll be keeping my JK for the foreseeable future - it's exactly the way I want it. But if half doors are an option on the JL I would pick one up as a daily driver and basically leave it stock, maybe just do a lift and tires.
Of course that's what I said about the JK Rubi before long arm, 37's...
I went by the dealership today - half doors are definitely not available on this first batch that's available for preorder right now, but supposedly there will be a "trim package" (think Islander / Call of Duty / Mountain / etc.) available after the first of the year and half doors are on one of...
