This is incorrect info. With the aux removed or bypassed and fuse F42 pulled, ESS will continue to work off the main battery unless the button is pushed to disable or a device like a Tazer is used to permanently remember the ESS off state.

There's nothing in the Jeep app or on the Jeep website that would cause steering controls, etc. to stop working. I'd venture a guess that it is just coincidence that you see the issue when you have the app or web page open, and you have another issue. Might be a bad clock spring.
If you are still running the original OEM batteries, you are long over due. Change the main and either replace or bypass the aux (if you have one).
Old/bad/dying batteries cause all types of weird electrical issues.

1. Search for a replacement OEM 7” radio
2. Upgrade to an OEM 8.4” radio
3. Install an aftermarket radio/head unit

By all means, continue to search for what you want, but to do the job right you need to replace the module.
