Dumb question. I should have looked while under there last weekend.
Do the rear bumpstop CUPS unbolt from the frame, or are they welded on place? On TJs and ZJs I've played with they unbolted.
So today I conducted a semi-scientific test to see how much weight it would take to bring the Jeep's rear back down to level (3/4" drop). I went to Tractor Supply Company and bought ten 40lb bags of fireplace pellets.
Measurements were taken from the ground through the center of the rear tire...
My 23 JLU Willys XR 2.0T will do 80mph all day on the highway.
Now my 98 TJ 2.5/five speed with 3.5" lift, 33" tires, & 4.88 gears can only dream of 80mph. Driving across Wyoming at elevation and wind... yeah I'm that Jeep doing 50mph in the right lane.
I love my TJ; it has been to Moab...
2023 JLU Willys XR 2.0T.
Removed factory rear XR springs and Terraflex 0.5" spacer lift, and replaced with Synergy 2" lift springs and Terraflex 0.5" spacer lift. Gained 0.75" lift.
So the Synergy 2" rear springs gave me 0.75" lift over the factory XR (1.5" lift) springs.
Was level before...
Yeah, you can go crazy mixing and matching springs to get the height and ride you want. I figured with these Synergy springs (a $260 gamble) if they weren't tall enough I could always put the 1/2" spacer back in, which I ended up doing.
2023 JLU Willys XR 2.0T. Ordered from the factory. The XR package includes a 1.5" lift. Soon after getting it I added a Terraflex 0.5" spacer lift on all four corners. So a total of a 2" lift. Sat level, I was happy.
But I Overland some, and tow a small 1500lb trailer, which causes the...
285.70.17 is essentially a 33" tire. Would definitely fill in the wheel wells. A Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT would fit your needs.
If you're feeling spunky, adding a .5" or a .75" or a 1" spring spacer lift all around would add to the look if you needed a little more room for the 33" tires.
Don't laugh.
You need a place to go potty/go poop in the middle of nowhere on the trail where it is all open area (no trees to hide behind) and it will be hours before you're back to civilization. One of those pop-up potty shelters (something simple like the link below), some sort of potty...
I usually run 91 octane. Especially when towing. Sometimes if I'm on a long highway trip and just burning through tankfulls of gas (and not towing) I'm tempted to put in something lower. But then I figure I'm really not saving much per tankfull - maybe the price of a Starbucks coffee?
So...
Even with the tow package (which I ordered) you still need to install a brake controller if you're using the 7-pin connector and your trailer has electric brakes.
23 JLU Willys XR 2.0T. Ordered it the way I wanted with the Alpine system. I'm not an audiophile, but I think it sounds great. I also upgraded the top of the dash speakers (about the easiest speaker swap I've ever done).
I guess you could spend thousands to upgrade your stereo. But would...
In 2003 I bought a new KIA Sorento. Awesome vehicle. Built like a tank, a beast in the snow. They are a big player in the USA.
Their 4 door SUVs are not aimed towards the off road market like Jeep, Toyota, or Ford. But if they decided to give us a run for our money, they could do it.
So finally had a nice sunny day so I installed the raw aluminum AFE diff cover. Looks nice. I don't really have a way to measure rear diff temp, but I'm hoping this'll keep it a bit cooler. I plan on doing a lot of towing this summer, and I don't want to cook my rear diff.
I don't use this...
I've got a set of Gorilla lug nut locks on all four plus the spare. I'm sure a "professional" wheel stealer would have the tool to defeat them. But they should slow down the opportunistic meth head punk from stealing them.
I've got a 23 with the XR package. These rims and tires ain't cheap...
