  1. What Is the REAL weakness in the ESS System?

I fully support Shawn's take here but believe there to be an even more attributable cause to the weakness of the ESS System: the EPA. Now, before anyone jumps on my bandwagon, this is not some "dam the govrnmnt" (spelling for effect) take on things. I support our need to get off the ICE...
  2. Cargo advice: Any divider ideas?

Options open if you're willing to DIY, remove the back seats or both. If you see either of both of these as a option I'd glad to provide links to some further solutions.
  3. Cargo advice: Any divider ideas?

Cargo netting https://www.harborfreight.com/automotive/cargo-tie-downs/straps-nets-tie-downs/cargo-nets-covers.html strung between the Sports Bar, under a folded seat, and top and borrom of the tailgate might work. I can't think of a product that breaks the area behind the front seats down...
  4. 2019 Sahara Unlimited start/stop issue

Often, when one of the two batteries dies it's time to change both, or at the very least have the surviving battery load tested in isolation. This involves electrically separating the batteries and putting a load tester (not merely a volt tester) to the battery's terminals to test its ability...
  5. 2019 Sahara Unlimited start/stop issue

Hi again Arnold @apolanco : While again, it sounds like your ESS battery is on its way out, understanding why its limited power is causing the things you're experiencing, the things you should do, and the options you have in response follows. When your dual AGM battery JL is cold cranked it...
  6. 2019 Sahara Unlimited start/stop issue

Yes. Before I comment on the "why's" and "what can be done's" about it, after this second Start/Stop function gets it started does an "ESS off" light appear in the dash? While it's likely the ESS battery, the reason why a failing ESS battery can cause this, the suite of options you have...
  7. So What's the deal with battery load testing anyway?

....it sounds like the stuff that serves as preamble to a comic's punch line. A lot of posts on the board have correctly suggested that the only true test--the gold standard if you will--of vehicle battery testing is the load test, not how many volts some meter registers when connected to an...
  8. ESS Battery Dead?

I am not certain that the presence of an idiot light on the dash will preclude remote start from working but it would not surprise me. That said, and along your solid line of reasoning, the absence of of such idiot lights is certainly a step in the right direction to allow remote start to work...
  9. New Jeep and the floorboard is a bathtub

Brilliant minds think alike Shawn. I was saying to myself that Youtube lacks a video that points out all the common places that a JL can let water in. :)
  10. ESS Battery Dead?

All: Until "Mr. Rhinebeck" uses his words, not mocking laughing icons at content which is not, nor intended to be funny, please take his childish gestures as that of someone who has no factual rebuttal and ignore them. Thanks. Put your laughing icon right there Rhinebeck \/ It won't change...
  11. ESS Battery Dead?

I completely agree, and yet, interesting enough, my finger is more pointed at the EPA than Stellantis here, and so you should know my biases I am an environmentally leaning person who believes in the EPAs mission. That said, and to keep me off my soapbox, the CAFE rules for automobile...
  12. ESS Battery Dead?

My pleasure. Joe..so that we're on the same page, (and so I can mentally close out this thread in my head) the vehicle does not indeed not only start, but on the first crank now, correct sir?
  13. ESS Battery Dead?

Got it. Your running a dual AGM battery model year 2021 JL, and you only disconnected the black cable from the main battery whose other end is NOT the body ground on the passenger's side front quarter panel. The cable from the body ground to the negative terminal of the main battery is...
  14. ESS Battery Dead?

Bill, I second your props to the Genesis dual battery system, although I do not own it, but wish to add some commentary on the product's best use so that people will not incur this expense to solve the wrong problem. The Genesis system is a wonderful way of providing your JL with not only more...
  15. ESS Battery Dead?

Hi Joe: Clarify for me. Did you merely disconnect from the main battery's negative terminal the cable whose distal end is NOT the body ground (i.e. the disconnected cable's distal end being the negative terminal of the ESS battery)..... and stop.....(which would be ok if you did?) or did...
  16. ESS Battery Dead?

Early 2018 owners: Merely disconnecting the ESS battery without having TSB 18-092-19 applied to your vehicle by a dealer will leave you with a JL that won't crank. For newer owners with dual batteries, the first crank should fail but subsequent one should be ok consistent with my above...
  17. Jeep humor waiting room ( ** NO POLITICS ** )

"Sir," said the attorney for the plaintiff to a prospective juror, "can you promise me that if you serve on the jury of this case that you will not seek to create a hung jury?" Prospective juror: "All I can guarantee you sir is that if I sit on this jury that I will help it be a well hung...
  18. Battery not keeping up with fridge - while running.

The EVIC is far more a representation of that the (smart) alternator is pushing than what is in the battery or how healthy that battery is. In fact consistently high, like 13.6V readings suggest that the alternator is trying to push current into a set of batteries that may not be able to accept...
  19. Battery not keeping up with fridge - while running.

You can change the cargo plug to only be energized, as mentioned, when the vehicle is cranked. I find it hard to believe that a jLs working batteries and an alternator can't energized your refrigerator and that a dedicated external battery should be necessary while your cruising.
  20. Battery not keeping up with fridge - while running.

Jay, I'm guessing the 12.2 volts may have been the refrigerator's reading, not the EVIC's. Thoughts Matthew?
