  1. 456 vs 488 Questions

I actually got a kick out of Joe's post, as I think a lot of people put way too much thought into gears. Sure, there are "optimal" gear ratios but also a lot of ratios that work just fine. I've been off-roading for 30 years and have never heard somebody say "I would have made that obstacle if...
  2. Tire plug usage

If they had to dismount the tire and do it from the inside, and you can obviously see a plug sticking out of the tire, it's probably a plug/patch combo as mentioned. I really wouldn't be concerned about it all and air down just like you normally would.
  3. Are my shocks failing each time or is it something bigger?

When you say the shocks are failing, what exactly is going on? In the first post you say the ride height is different at each corner and ask if that means the shocks are failing "again". As mentioned several times the shocks have absolutely nothing to do with ride height.....you aren't saying...
  4. Will I get better fuel economy going for a 35" to a 37" tire if I drop weight?

I would be surprised if you got better fuel mileage, but as mentioned the lower weight would help make up for the larger tires. Understand your thought about lower RPM for a given speed, but just because the engine is running slower doesn't mean it's using less fuel. Again, as mentioned above...
  5. Excessive wind noise at 65 MPH UP

It is true wind noise or is it tire noise. You mention Rubicon so thought the 2020's always came with mud tires, and not sure what you have on it now (if still the original tires that are getting worn they tend to get really loud). Do these other Jeeps that you say are quiet have the same type...
  6. 2024 Rubicon or 2024 Willys XR

Interesting, just was looking at the Jeep website today and the XR, or Extreme 35, package is not showing up as an option. That was for both the Willy's and Rubicon. Pretty sure I was looking at it just a week or so ago and it was showing up. Not the first time options and packages have...
  7. Can you say Gears?

Good comments above. While I stated in a post how 3.45's and stock are the same on paper as 4.10's and 37's, it is all in perspective. How good do you think 3.45 gears really are? I also think a lot of people don't have a good perspective of the difference between gears. They also tend to...
  8. New to Jeeps - looking at JL Wrangler Sport S

For 2024 it appears that the soft top is standard up through the Sahara models. The hard top is a $1,700 option. Can't speak for the previous years, but think my dad still has the window sticker from his '19 Sport S. Would be curious to look at that.
  9. Can you say Gears?

One thing to keep in mind.... A Sport S comes with 245/75R17 tires (31.5" on paper) and 3.45 gears. Running the numbers in a gear calculator that is 1,602 RPM @ 65 mph. Compare that to a Rubicon with 4.10 gears and 37" tires. Running the numbers in a gear calculator that is 1,621 RPM @ 65...
  10. New to Jeeps - looking at JL Wrangler Sport S

My dad has a '19 he bought used several years ago. The only issue is that the heated steering wheel does not work (it's the S model with the "cold weather package" option). In regards to the exhaust, if you do some serious rock crawling with a stock JL you risk damaging the exhaust....and if...
  11. KO3 vs KO2 Tires Comparison Look & Analysis, Size Availability and Launch Details

Don't blame Jeep, blame the majority of people who buy them. Not like a group of Jeep engineers were sitting around the bar one night and randomly decided to put all-terrains on them. It's all based on market research. All of the soccer moms and mall cruisers want the quieter tires that are...
  12. Ultimate Mall Crawler?

I watched Litebrite quite a bit back in the early days but lost interest as they got bigger and sponsored. To be honest I thought that actual Jeepin' and off-road stuff was by far the biggest focus of the channel. Wasn't a whole lot of her in the earlier videos, and mostly just face shots...
  13. New 2024 JLUR tire/wheel take offs what are they worth?

Less than 2 years ago I paid $1,000 for a set of 5 factory take-off Rubicon tires and wheels with the TPMS. They had maybe a 5,000 miles on them. Searched around quite a bit over several months and this was a decent deal. A new set of 5 tires alone would be around $1600+ after tax. With that...
  14. Xtreme Recon Xtreme 35 Tire

According to the Jeep website for 2024: For the 4 door you can get the Extreme 35 package on either the Willy's or Rubicon models. For the Rubicon X 4 door, you can option out 35" tires and 4.56 gears separately but don't show the Extreme 35 package. For a 2 door the Rubicon is the only way that...
  15. Low Gas signal on then how far more?

As mentioned you can view the "miles to empty" or whatever it's called on the display, but keep in mind that is an estimated amount which varies based on driving conditions. So if the display starts out at 20 miles it will start decreasing at different rates pending how you are driving. If you...
  16. Xtreme Recon Xtreme 35 Tire

Just looked at the Jeep website and for 2024 it only mentions the Xtreme 35 package. My guess is they are the same and it was just a rename for 2024.
  17. My 2023 Rubicon build headache

I agree. I'm sure there are/were some good branches with decent mechanics, but the several I personally know about were pretty shoddy. I've always done work myself but was involved in clubs with people who used 4WP and there were always problems. First 4WP in our area was 15 years ago and...
  18. Walmart wouldn't install my 35's

Don't blame the stores or companies for these policies. Not like some Walmart exec is just sitting around and randomly decides they won't mount tires on a vehicle if they are different sizes. You need to blame the idiots out there who did something stupid and had an accident, but then turned...
  19. Is there a market for a 36in tire?

Part of the issue is if a tire manufacturer already offers a 35" and 37" tire, are you actually going to get a lot more total tire sales if you also offer a 36" tire. Sure, maybe you will sell 4,000 of these new 36" tires but is that simply because you sold 4,000 less 35" and 37" tires...
  20. 2020 Rubicon Recon Missing Tow Hitch?

Buddy bought a used JL that did not have a hitch or wiring. The dealer (which was a Jeep dealer) had a hitch and trailer wiring installed as part of the deal. The hitch itself is super easy and quick to install, but the wiring takes much longer. You can buy a brand name hitch for around $100...
