  1. Over 6 month wait is over!

    I miss my two door!!!
  2. 392 daily driver

Yeah, I realize the split personality. I have had a Wrangler since 1978 and part of what I always enjoyed was getting out into nature. I fought the battle about wasting resources... but as a pragmatic eco-dude; well, you can see what won. I just feel guilty and recycle more than I ever have...
  3. 392 daily driver

I am an "eco-dude" and a large man as well. I worry about gas, but figure I am saving the planet in a great deal of other places. Sorry if this is not what you meant or someone else has a different way of interpreting this. The large man comment is that the Wrangler is basically the smallest...
  4. What I learned at the dealership today, with pics [search terms: Rubicon 392, 2.0L, SOT, hardtop]

I have a 392. This is basically the culmination of Wranglers that I have owned since 1982; my first was a 1977 CJ-5. I am from Tennessee and have done various degrees of off-roading since the first one I ever owned. I doubt that I will ever do anything besides mild trails in the 392. I think...
  5. Seeking a test-ride in a Seattle-area Wrangler Rubicon 392 - SOLVED

I have had my 392 for around 8 months. When the exhaust is on silent mode, these folks are correct. When you push the "FUN" button... The sweetest sound wafts out of the dual exhaust that you can imagine! The standard acceleration is just perfect with a soft growl, but when you step on the...
  6. What color to paint hardtop interior?

Or... For a totally different take, I have seen several folks that get stickers from their travels and adventures and put them on the ceiling of the hard top... Just a thought.
  7. Smokey Mountain Memories

Andy, I am from Tennessee and have looked too many times to admit. I always use Smoky Mountains now and believe it to be the way I will continue to spell it! I love your trip/post. Great job!!! I also love the Rock House. Linville and the whole area are great. Great trails going...
  8. New Shoes and Rims - Mopar 17 x 8.5

Those are the exact same wheels I switched to. I like the 8 1/2 inch stance and the back spacing.
  9. Jeep Head of Design Mark Allen retires. Replaced by Vince Gallante, Ryan Nagode, Leandro Pinto

Well, change is inevitable, but I will always have a fondness for the minimalist look of the old CJ's where the dash was basically a steel sheet with the dials stuck in it! I guess evolution made that go away. I have my 392 so I am hoping that this is the last Wrangler I will buy. Maybe a...
  10. Not sure about 35’s anymore

Yee, Haw!!! I like the stance of my Jeep with a bit wider wheel... typically ended up with a 17x8.5 - 9 with a 4.5 backspace. I always ended up with close to a 33" tire and never had an issue. Drove good on the road (98% of my driving), and did what I needed it to going over reasonable trails...
  11. Negotiating a 2024 order

I started doing the same thing with Peterson in Nampa and my first Rubicon. I have always started looking for a dealer out west somewhere to make a road trip / adventure out of the purchase. I am convinced I always save significant dollars to buy this way. I have now found Gupton on Ratberts...
  12. Negotiating a 2024 order

Thanks for the knowledge. The thing that I have noticed about Gupton is that they do seem to have a great deal more inventory and it looks like there is a fair amount of traffic from folks from out-of-town. I have enjoyed dealing with Dan and Renee.
  13. Negotiating a 2024 order

I do not know what the Suppliers Discount is; I have not heard it called that. I used the chart that Ratbert provided to get the percentage off of invoice, and the additional (approximately 1%) off for the $100 investment (and 30 days) in Tred Lightly.
  14. Negotiating a 2024 order

I assume to FCA/Stelantis. Otherwise, why are not all dealerships afforded the same below invoice pricing opportunities? I was actually told this by a dealer in the area that did not offer these same deals and when I asked, this is what was explained to me?! I always wondered how Kernersville...
  15. Walking in to a dealer and buying one?

I also purchased my Rubicon from Kent in 2019. I am in Tennessee and my brother and I made a great trip out of it. The experience was excellent and I would highly recommend dealing with him and the Peterson folks. More recently I bought a 392 from Gupton Motors in Springfield, Tennessee. They...
  16. Negotiating a 2024 order

As I understand it, the Dealers have to pay a premium to be one of the favored "below invoice" crowd. It seems as if they change their demographic somewhat to a bunch more exposure. I have had dealings with Dan and Renee at Gupton about 45 minutes from my house and they are both laid back and...
  17. Ratbert's Dealers Below-Invoice Spreadsheet

I bought a 392 from Gupton and a Ram Rebel. Renee and Daniel are both first rate. I would give this dealership a thumbs up on everything. There are less expensive avenues, but they are close to the house and fair and honest folks. ...just sayin'
  18. I want a CD player

I have done this and love it. I also feel like a dinosaur. I always enjoyed books on CD when I was on the road... Now just a little harder [for me] with an added step. I also have a Garmin watch with 2,000 songs on it for hiking... never thought about a bluetooth connection to sync the watch...
  19. Going to MOAB. Need some guidance

I love the Jeep community! Whether you are a "mall crawler" or hard core, it is great to hear of experiences like this. I love every time I get in my Jeep and just take a drive. I also enjoy just getting out on the trails and meeting folks.
  20. Earl with Color Accents?

I have owned a Sting Gray Rubicon and Being from Nashville had to adorn it with some U of Tennessee orange accents. My Girlfriend is from Kentucky and always votes for UK Blue. I thought Earl was a bit too "baby blue", but I think that any accent color that has reasonable contrast will look...
