  1. New JL Steering Issue TSB 08-074-20 (for "Improved Steering Feel")

Did you forward this info on to @JeepCares ? I believe they can trump the case manager and get the dealership to do the service. Especially when still under warranty.
  2. New JL Steering Issue TSB 08-074-20 (for "Improved Steering Feel")

When this TSB first came out, I contacted them. It took about 3 days for them to get back to me. I’m sure they’re much busier now, but be patient. They WILL get back to you and they will make it right, I’m certain.
  3. New JL Steering Issue TSB 08-074-20 (for "Improved Steering Feel")

You need to contact @JeepCares like yesterday!! This is totally unacceptable from any certified Jeep dealer.
  4. New JL Steering Issue TSB 08-074-20 (for "Improved Steering Feel")

Wow, that’s unacceptable! I’d try another dealer and get @JeepCares involved in the meantime. Maybe even a call/email to the GM of the dealership.
  5. New JL Steering Issue TSB 08-074-20 (for "Improved Steering Feel")

Does that dealer have any 2021s on their lot? If so, tell them to go look at the box that’s in those and justify why FCA decided to switch to the box in the TSB if it wasn’t needed. It’s still the JL so it’s not from a model change.
  6. New JL Steering Issue TSB 08-074-20 (for "Improved Steering Feel")

In this case, the parts revisions were due to customer complaints with each revision supposed to the the “fix.” Ultimately, it was a complete retooling with different material that seems to be the real fix.
  7. New JL Steering Issue TSB 08-074-20 (for "Improved Steering Feel")

As far as “by build date”, I can’t tell you. However, it seems they started with 68250508AA and went to AB, AC, AD, and AE before finally switching to the new iron version.
  8. New JL Steering Issue TSB 08-074-20 (for "Improved Steering Feel")

There are gauges that can be used to set torque by a certain degree. However, 135 is an easy one. If the breaker bar or torque wrench is pointing straight down, tighten another 90 degrees (from 6 o’clock to 9 o’clock). Then tighten another 45 degrees, half the distance from 9 to 12 (let’s just...
  9. New JL Steering Issue TSB 08-074-20 (for "Improved Steering Feel")

This is why I was trying to find the spec for it. The old one may be 99, but it also had bolts that went all the way trough and fastened down with nuts. The bolts on the new one thread into the box without nuts on the end. Guess we need the specs for 2021 JK or Gladiator.
  10. New JL Steering Issue TSB 08-074-20 (for "Improved Steering Feel")

Anyone know what the torque specs are on the new gearbox? I know the aluminum ones were 99 lb-ft, but those had bolts with nuts on them. The new ones thread into the gearbox.
  11. New JL Steering Issue TSB 08-074-20 (for "Improved Steering Feel")

I had to drive 2.5 hours to a dealership to get the 2020 JLU my wife wanted. Had some wander in our test drive, which was 35 mph or less since I was unfamiliar with the area, but I chalked it up to the overinflated tires. Signed the paperwork and started heading home. The next 2.5 hours on the...

  13. New JL Steering Issue TSB 08-074-20 (for "Improved Steering Feel")

I’d stop by. However, it is possible that someone in service had Coronavirus and now they’re all under quarantine.
  14. New JL Steering Issue TSB 08-074-20 (for "Improved Steering Feel")

You could always go back and verify if it had the new box yourself. If you look up from under the front end and see a silver box that the Pittman arm is connected to, it’s the old one. If it’s black, it’s new. It could also have been a case of over inflated tires. Many times they have way too...
  15. New JL Steering Issue TSB 08-074-20 (for "Improved Steering Feel")

If you can get them to order before, do it. Allegedly, dealers can only order the boxes every 2 weeks, and if there’s others in line ahead of you, then you get pushed back even further.
  16. New JL Steering Issue TSB 08-074-20 (for "Improved Steering Feel")

Solid front axle vehicles, such as the Wrangler, will have a tad bit of wander. That’s the nature of the beast. As an owner of multiple Jeeps through the years, I can say with 100% certainty that my wife’s 2020 had more wander than it should. I had the TSB performed yesterday, and her Jeep now...
  17. New JL Steering Issue TSB 08-074-20 (for "Improved Steering Feel")

8/17-went to dealer with TSB in hand. Initially got the “leave it with us so we can verify the problems.” Told them they didn’t need to and showed them the highlighted portion of the TSB. Said ok and they’d order the parts. 8/21- follow up email. Told parts still on order and they’d let me...
  18. New JL Steering Issue TSB 08-074-20 (for "Improved Steering Feel")

The wife’s goes in tomorrow. 2 days shy of a month since they agreed to do the TSB.
  19. New JL Steering Issue TSB 08-074-20 (for "Improved Steering Feel")

This right here sums it up nicely. I have a 2013 JKU, 3 inch lift, 35’s and it drives much better than the wife’s 2020 Willys. When we got it at the dealer, I was unaware of the steering box issues. Initially, I chalked it up to the tires being set to 41 psi cold at the dealer. Dropped the...
  20. New JL Steering Issue TSB 08-074-20 (for "Improved Steering Feel")

My dealer was having a hard time getting parts, at least that’s what they said. I got Jeep Cares involved. Oddly enough, the day after being assigned a case number by Jeep Cares, my dealer called to tell me the parts were in. Not sure if that was their doing or not, but it sure was awfully...
