I've been waiting several months (since before the strike) for a set of doors for the approved good will repair of my 2018 JLU. About a month after those were ordered, a set was also approved and ordered for my 2020 JT.
After seeing reports of tens of thousands of dollars spent on some of...
There's some discussion on it in this thread https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/thoughts-on-aluminum-panel-galvanic-corrosion-mitigation.110847/post-2301791
The hinge corrosion seems to start where water gets trapped in the seam between the steel hinge pin and the aluminum hinge.
Check the N3 fuse of the fuse array and/or swap the wire connected to the N3 terminal to the N4 terminal. If the issue is a blown N3 fuse, moving the wire to the N4 terminal will get it going.
I looked and didn't find any, but the experienced eyes of the dealer's estimator found baby bubbles on all 4 doors. Hopefully the replacements will be less susceptible.
I just saw this reply. There is a large aftermarket for JK hinges, so depending on how rusted the hinges are, you might want to look at replacing them. Kentrol makes black powder coated stainless steel replacements.
I expect that before long there will be aftermarket black powder coated...
JK doors can have issues with weather stripping failing and water leaking in. Aftermarket weather stripping does not compress easily, making the door harder to close. Before you mess with the hinges, try to determine if the weather stripping was changed.
Be sure to look real close. After the reappearance of corrosion led to ordering all 4 doors on my JLU, I carefully inspected the inside edges of the doors on my JT and after finding no corrosion, I applied preventative wax to the inside edges.
Then I found severe bubbling on the bottom of...
It's not a rock chip problem, it's water getting trapped in the seam between the aluminum hinge and the pressed in steel pin that exacerbates the galvanic interaction between the aluminum and steel.
What is your acid etch process? I'm curious if it will work for repairing small areas.
I've had my 0 optioned JLU for around 5.5 years and my minimally optioned JT Max Tow sport for around 3.5 years. I bought them to modify, so that happens from time to time, but nothing major.
