  1. Jeep Is Installing Solar Chargers at Moab And Rubicon Trail For New Hybrid Wrangler 4xe

Speed is the enemy of electric vehicle efficiency. On the Rubicon and Moab trails you crawl, as I'm sure you know. My Prius gets 70 MPG on drives into Los Angeles on freeways choked with bumper to bumper traffic. But on high speed runs up Hwy 5 where you run 90 mph or more it drops into the high...
  2. Jeep Is Installing Solar Chargers at Moab And Rubicon Trail For New Hybrid Wrangler 4xe

10 to 14 is on 120 volt. house current. 2 hours is a fast charger hooked to 240 volt.
  3. EV / PHEV JL Wrangler Rubicon will go 0-60 in 6 seconds says Jeep President

The range, with one gallon of fuel left in the tank of current Wranglers is 400 miles for V6 auto/380 miles for V6 manual, and 440 for the2.0L turbo ESS or E-torque. Assuming it uses the 2.0L that would give it 471 miles, a lot more than a Tesla. Originally they said a BEV (full electric) would...
  4. EV / PHEV JL Wrangler Rubicon will go 0-60 in 6 seconds says Jeep President

It will have the range of a gasoline engine PLUS 31 miles on electric power.
  5. Jeep JL Wrangler plug in hybrid pics (with underbody) from CES

They want to sell Jeeps in China, the world's biggest auto market. In order to do this they need PHEV's available with a 50 KM electric only range, or roughly 32 miles, like the Pacifica. But China's definition of "Range" is easier to meet than the one in the US where we drive much faster, so...
  6. Jeep Wrangler 4xe will be name of PHEV Hybrid Electric model. Coming late 2020

The Rubicon is 17.2 miles long, based on the most popular route and typically takes 2 to 3 days.. This will probably have a 32 mile electric only range like the Pacifica so they can sell Wranglers in China. Most PHEV's allow the driver to select ICE only, so in this scenario one could save...
  7. 2020 EcoDiesel Wrangler JLU and Willys JL Revealed at TX State Fair

What is interesting is the XJ Cherokees, when equipped with the factory tow package, were rated to tow 5,000 pounds. Just don't try to stop!
  8. ...2020 PHEV: but is it "worth it"

They've been using the Los Angeles Auto Show to intro new Jeeps. If I remember right it is Nov/Dec. Earlier FCA plans showed production starting in December, but they have a history of falling behind schedule on new products, so don't hold your breath!
  9. Dear Jeep, please don't make a "weird" hybrid version of the Wrangler...

Do you mean portal axles like on a MB Unimog? Or do you mean a hub motor on each corner? They add unsprung weight, hurting handling, but solid axles add lots of unsprung weight, so it could be an improvement! Think of the ground clearance! Improved traction and articulation, better efficiency..
  10. Dear Jeep, please don't make a "weird" hybrid version of the Wrangler...

http://www.fourwheeler.com/project-vehicles/154-0901-jeep-wrangler-ev/ Chrysler was worrking on BEV's in 2007, if not earlier, and was driving BEV Wranglers in 2007. The drove one to testify before Congress.
  11. Dear Jeep, please don't make a "weird" hybrid version of the Wrangler...

The full Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV, meaning no internal combustion engine) is expected approximately one year later in 2021. My guess is more than 12 months, but who knows!
  12. Dear Jeep, please don't make a "weird" hybrid version of the Wrangler...

The giant elephant in the room is Europe and China, not California. That is the very large market and that is driving this.
  13. First sighting of 2020 Jeep JL Wrangler PHEV Plug-In Hybrid!

Very interesting read! But I note that electric only maxes out at about 74.6 MPH, so I'd have to stay out of the fast lane! The system can handle an electric motor with up to 120 HP. The way I read it the motor imbedded in the transmission is a hydraulic unit, thus I assume the electric motor is...
  14. First sighting of 2020 Jeep JL Wrangler PHEV Plug-In Hybrid!

On a Pacifica the electric motor feeds in via the transaxle, as it is front wheel drive. So they certainly won't be using the Pacifica transaxle. Some Jeeps with lesser trail capabilities will get an electric motor powered rear axle, but I can't see that in a Wrangler. I think the real driver...
  15. First sighting of 2020 Jeep JL Wrangler PHEV Plug-In Hybrid!

That sounds about right. And I agree that the gasoline only range will be decreased due to the extra weight as it will drop the fuel mileage. That's what happened when Toyota developed a plug-in Hybrid Prius.
  16. First sighting of 2020 Jeep JL Wrangler PHEV Plug-In Hybrid!

Yes, but this thread is for a Plug-In hybrid, not the all electric model coming a year of so later. I agree that the range will be about 30-32 miles (32 so they can sell them in China)
  17. First sighting of 2020 Jeep JL Wrangler PHEV Plug-In Hybrid!

My recollection is that Jeep said the traction battery would be under the Jeep in a waterproof structure. I think they said it would be in the tunnel next to the driveshaft, which make sense. Obviously it would need it's own skid plate! It is far too big to go under the hood along with the engine.
  18. First sighting of 2020 Jeep JL Wrangler PHEV Plug-In Hybrid!

That is a valid point. If total range is decreased, there would be little point to buying one unless one's daily commute was within the battery mode range, or if battery only mode could be saved for the 4WD trail where instant torque will make it more capable than ICE mode. But knowing how...
  19. New JL is a POS

My XJ has over 330,00 miles and is 26 years old. It has none of those problems. That sounds like bad engineering to me. rather than a few lemons.
