If you don’t really know what you are doing, please consider using a professional to install new springs. I like to do most all my own work, but I would not even think about touching one of these springs, they can be pretty deadly.
I do all my own wrenching, except mounting/dismounting tires. For $40 a pop, well worth it. I used to change out my motorcycle tires by hand, but I gave that up too.
If the hydraulic fluid gets overheated, or there is air in the line that gets hot and expands; this could slightly disengage the clutch, causing it to slip and heat up. However, even if this were the case, the clutch/flywheel shouldn’t grenade. If the clutch is slipping, it should eventually...
Glad driver and dogs are OK. Either the clutch and or flywheel grenaded, shattered the bell housing, shredded the hydrolic lines, and puuff.
I would love to forensicly diagnose what happened here, including measuring the pressure plate thickness to see if the disk was worn down or something...
whether it will apply significantly more stress on the Sport's non-heavy duty brakes and drivetrain.
More stress, yes. Significantly more….no. Not something I’d worry about.
