  1. The Pentastar Loves to Wring its Filters Out!

One more thing...Not sure what you are doing with that Ecoboost, but I've never had 39ppm of Iron on a 10k run with Mobil 1. I've never had it shear out of grade like that, either. Still, those numbers aren't out of whack. Read up on UOAs and what they really tell you. Mobil 1, for awhile...
  2. The Pentastar Loves to Wring its Filters Out!

My experience with M1 doesn't agree with that at all. I've never have had an experience like that with Mobil 1. Depending on which you use, it has among the highest flash points, especially AP or EP. I've got an Ecoboost that I run 10k every oil change with Mobil 1 EP 5w30. It is severe...
  3. The Pentastar Loves to Wring its Filters Out!

Lol, I bought 12 or 13 of them, but at 3 different stores. I felt I needed to leave a couple at each one for some other person to get lucky! I do the same thing with oiling and the metal pic. I'll try the snip. I always worry about gouging the plastic mating surface with that pic.
  4. JL Best dual muf axle back exhaust (neighborhood friendly)?

I've got a Magnaflow axle-back and it sounds GREAT but isn't enough to bug anyone. It is quiet when you are driving normally, but makes a nice, but not obnoxious volume when you get on it. I think they really got a nice sound out of the 3.6. I have a manual and it is just a blast to go...
  5. The Pentastar Loves to Wring its Filters Out!

It is odd, isn't it? They were ultimately restocked at our local WM and are back to something like 15 bucks each. I see no change, even in the graphics on the box.

  7. Cheap Jeep Hacks! Show 'Em Off Here!

    Those are great! Linky?
  8. Clutch Recall (FCA W12 | 20V-124) on 2018-2020 JL Manuals [overheating clutch pressure plate]

Got my appointment today. I take the Jeep in next Friday, Aug 17. I'm not so bothered about them keeping it for awhile now, as they have set me up with a Gladiator as a loaner! I told them to take their time with it! Lol! I hope it is a Rubicon, but that would be pressing my luck.
  9. What does offroading feel like?

Lol, what you said is what got me hooked. It is fascination with a machine that can drive comfortably for hours on the highway and then get brutally subjected to an off-road beating on beautiful trails, and then take you back home again in comfort. It is also the variety of terrain it can...
  10. No problems with my Jeep today - Or ever!

I'm with you. I've had no problems with it, but the dual battery deal is strange, to me. When my battery finally goes, I'm going to put a Northstar AGM battery in there, at least for the main one. I'm hoping they make one to replace the small one, too. Hopefully this one will go awhile...
  11. Clutch Recall (FCA W12 | 20V-124) on 2018-2020 JL Manuals [overheating clutch pressure plate]

Wow, man, that's shameful work. Do you have any other dealers around or are you stuck with that one?
  12. Garmin Overlander - Used Once - $400

I like mine. It is easy to upload GPX files and it has 3D topography. Worked great on a trip to Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway a couple weeks ago. It also interfaces with the Garmin Inreach, allowing you to control it from the Overlander.
  13. For those planning to keep their 3.6L Jeeps for years: Story of 626k miles on Pentastar and still going!

One thing I'd say about these super high mileage engines. We all talk about oil changes, but there is something else to consider maintenance-wise, as well. The air filter. I've seen guys that are religious about changing oil but never change the air filter. I've seen a few of those guys have...
  14. For those planning to keep their 3.6L Jeeps for years: Story of 626k miles on Pentastar and still going!

Lol, yeah, I'd be THRILLED with 300k! The good news is that it doesn't appear to be unusual for Pentastars to make 300k. I might see that with mine, but it will be years before I do. I just don't put enough miles on it to get there quickly. I'd love to pass it to my kids or grandkids and see...
  15. For those planning to keep their 3.6L Jeeps for years: Story of 626k miles on Pentastar and still going!

He did say they put a coating on the parts that would wear most with ESS to mitigate the wear, but said the fact that is necessary bothers him. He was not a part of the development of the engines with ESS, though, so he's going by what he's been told and what he knew they were working with at...
  16. JLU oil change frequency

I get it. I get a lot of joy and knowledge out of your contributions, and I know I speak for many, many others around here. Just know that you are appreciated by many, many forum members, starting with me.
  17. Clutch Recall (FCA W12 | 20V-124) on 2018-2020 JL Manuals [overheating clutch pressure plate]

Yep, I know. My concern is that IF it fails the test and a new clutch is necessary, I don't want one of these 4 or even 8 week nightmares of being without my Jeep. I've got off-roading trips planned for this thing. I want to know that if the worst case scenario were to come to be, the parts...
  18. For those planning to keep their 3.6L Jeeps for years: Story of 626k miles on Pentastar and still going!

No prob! The original reference was Kevin at Oil Udder, the Pentastar design engineer, made a statement on Bitog that he would never run E85 or use ESS in an engine if hoping to make it last as long as possible. He said this about E85 because in the tests with which he was involved, E85...
  19. JLU oil change frequency

You've helped so many people around here, that's why I got out of my lane a bit into something not so much my business and interjected that it was appearing to get personal. It was an attempt to gently bump things back in a positive direction. I guess it had the opposite effect, and for that I...
