  1. Aux switches. What's on yours?

I used the pink/orange wire to connect the blue trigger wire from my subs amp. The actual power to the sub comes directly from the battery. I haven’t had any issues.
  2. 2-door vs. 4-door -- All the Things Discussion

I vote for one of each! I like to drive "unusual" vehicles, and a JLR (which comprises about 3% of total Jeep JLs on the market) definitely qualifies. Even in a metropolis like Dallas I've only seen 3 other JLRs on the road (lots of JKs and TJs, but not many JLs). There's nothing like...
  3. Plug and Play amp upgrade to basic system

Just another article on sealed vs. ported speaker enclosures. Unless you're trying to get a bunch of whomp out of a sub, it seems sealed enclosures are the way to go (especially for mid and upper ranges)... https://www.eminence.com/sealed-vs-ported-enclosures/
  4. 2-door vs. 4-door -- All the Things Discussion

Reasons (based on personal opinion) I prefer the two door... 1. If I'm going the wrong way, I only need 17' to turn around (21' for the JLU)... 2. Jeeps are supposed to have 2 doors (the JLU should be called a "StationWrangler"). 3. There's plenty of storage space- just delete the pointless...
  5. Do you think the Alpine Sound System is an absolute essentially needed upgrade? (Sport S and higher models only)

That's interesting... the Alpine upgrade kit only supplies 45w to four channels (but even then, you have to turn the gain almost as low as it goes- so I can't imagine how providing 45w to each speaker would be beneficial, especially since the premium system uses the same speakers as the base...
  6. Plug and Play amp upgrade to basic system

Yes they are. I was surprised the factory pods were ported (the factory speaker is a midrange component- I guess they were trying to get as much as they could out of a small speaker). The factory soundbar enclosure is ported as well- probably for the same reason. The Metra pods are not...
  7. Do you think the Alpine Sound System is an absolute essentially needed upgrade? (Sport S and higher models only)

Again, not knocking the Alpine premium system- it does sound nice. I'm just proposing it is not "essential," because an investment of 8 hours or so and about $850 will get you better sound out of the base system. Knee panel speakers- my understanding is the knee panel speakers are the same...
  8. Do you think the Alpine Sound System is an absolute essentially needed upgrade? (Sport S and higher models only)

Nothing against the Alpine system... My coworker has it (I have the base system with the 7" screen), and it was clearly better than my system when it was stock. However, for about $600 (and not a lot of work), I upgraded my system to make it indistinguishable from his- and, for another $200...
  9. Why is there an unconnected Park Assist ECU in my JL?

I'm in the process of replacing my knee panel speakers, and I noticed a module on the back of the driver's side speaker pod. I swapped it over to the Metra pod, but then I got curious (because it's obviously an ECU- but it isn't connected to anything). The number on the back of the module is...
  10. Plug and Play amp upgrade to basic system

My wife has noticed (positively :giggle: ) the vibrations caused by my under-the-passenger-seat mounted subwoofer as well. Well, I finally decided to upgrade the last remaining factory speakers in my Jeep- the knee panel speakers (thanks for shaming me into it, @Volbut32 :)). I have...
  11. Upgrade basic sound system stereo and speakers for <$500?

I posted a fairly inexpensive route to add an amp and new speakers to the base system at this link: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/plug-and-play-amp-upgrade-to-basic-system.51309/ With just the small Alpine amp (which can be installed in about an hour with harnesses) and a...
  12. Plug and Play amp upgrade to basic system

I installed a PWD-X5 in my son's car last weekend- it is a very nice all-in-one solution. I especially like the ability to tune each channel (for crossover, equalizer, etc.). It really allowed us to dial in the audio in his Veloster. Yep, tie the positives together and the negatives together...
  13. Jerry Can Mounted for $140 (Easy DIY)

The spare tire delete is from Artec. Here's a link: https://www.artecindustries.com/jlspred-pc?gclid=CjwKCAjwx9_4BRAHEiwApAt0zr_DOyb3IoP_Tp5LKvTeDhmSF2L_p3i_jqqqF6Ry1PBCFaetwGGSDRoCVlsQAvD_BwE
  14. Fuel Storage Options

I put together a relatively low-cost solution for mounting a 5 gallon Jerry can on the tailgate (if you've deleted the spare). https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/jerry-can-mounted-for-140-easy-diy.54909/#post-1191508
  15. Will we ever see factory half doors?

That is a sweet looking TJ, and those doors do look great! I really miss the bar covers on the JL- I don't know what it is about them, but seeing painted metal bars just isn't the same as those padded cloth covers. My mom is exceptionally handy with a sewing machine and keeps saying she could...
  16. Prototype Bumper

Sometimes less is more, and I'd say this qualifies. It has a nice straightforward simplicity to it (and I really like the way you reincorporated the factory fogs). Looks like it woudn't be over-heavy either. Nice job!
  17. Will we ever see factory half doors?

The standard Bronco door isn't so much a half door- it just has frameless window mounts (which gee, seems like a pretty cool and easy solution :^). It would probably take a lot for Jeep to adopt that design for future years of the JL (they'd have to alter the top and the doors, and the...
  18. Jerry Can Mounted for $140 (Easy DIY)

Hmm, can't say I can think of how to do that, but your comment about the passenger tail light got me thinking... Just wanted to post a pic from the other side to show the passenger side tail light isn't obstructed by the can.
  19. Jerry Can Mounted for $140 (Easy DIY)

I'm trying to think back to when I deleted the spare. I believe that 3d tail light is integral to the tire mount (and the rear view camera mount). I mean, a Sawsall would probably take care of the light in short order, but you'd have to remount the camera...
  20. What did you do TO your Jeep JL today?

I installed a 5 gallon Jerry can to the tailgate (DIY write-up here: Easy DIY Jerry Can Mount for $140). Once I thought through how to do it and assembled the parts, it only took about 90 minutes to install from start to finish, and now I won't need to make a trip back to the gas station with...
