  1. HD Front Camera setup for under $75, no Tazer required?

Honestly, this is all I'm trying to do. Provide an option at a very reasonable price.
  2. HD Front Camera setup for under $75, no Tazer required?

The two I looked into were pure CDMA, and I was told I would need to provide my own converter.
  3. HD Front Camera setup for under $75, no Tazer required?

Honestly, the challenge itself is the only real reason I want to do it. There are a ton of people interested in this, but the only halfway decent option will set you back about $520. I think we should be able to plug in a front camera, a 360-degree camera setup, or whatever other video source we...
  4. HD Front Camera setup for under $75, no Tazer required?

That looks like the 7" screen, not the 8.4". I have seen the same setup online for the 8.4", though. It certainly isn't plug & play.
  5. HD Front Camera setup for under $75, no Tazer required?

Any idea how I could identify who that is? I removed my rear camera yesterday to get a good look at it, and it’s just a fakra connection. I’d bet anything it’s the same on the front, and that makes everything much easier because there are no proprietary connections to deal with. All you will...
  6. Trail Cam from Gladiator to Wrangler

Yes, that’s exactly why I am trying to use a switcher to select the camera input received at the fakra connection. The cargo cam is input through two pins in the main radio harness. The trail cam isn’t an input at all. It’s done in an external video switcher.
  7. Trail Cam from Gladiator to Wrangler

TL/DR: Factory retrofit would require replacing or modifying the wiring harness. I personally don't believe this is going to happen. There are a couple sections of the wiring harness not installed in our vehicles that the retrofitting would need and wouldn't be easy to incorporate. I've read...
  8. HD Front Camera setup for under $75, no Tazer required?

Oh, man. That actually might be significantly better. I wish I knew what kind of plug was on the end. And I also wish I knew for certain the plug on the camera end is the same as the one on the back of my Jeep. The gladiator cameras are more expensive because they come with the camera housing...
  9. HD Front Camera setup for under $75, no Tazer required?

Looked into it this morning, maybe this $44 wire is what I'll need (in addition to the camera)? I need to get outside and take a look at the bottom end of this wire and see what it looks like, and figure out how I can convert whatever it is into BNC, SMA, or SMB (to connect to the splitter I...
  10. HD Front Camera setup for under $75, no Tazer required?

I agree, but I’d honestly rather just borrow what I need for a couple days. It will take me five minutes to know if it works. I don’t need just the camera. I’ll also need the wires that plug in to it, which is another $150. Then that needs to be converted into some sort of plug I can plug in to...
  11. HD Front Camera setup for under $75, no Tazer required?

It is coax. LVDS, or low-voltage differential signaling, operates at low power and can run at very high speeds using inexpensive copper cables. That’s why they use it in cars. It’s also highly resistant to electromagnetic interference, which is important because the wire harness in a car has so...
  12. HD Front Camera setup for under $75, no Tazer required?

    1. It's pretty impressive that we can buy a 720P camera and display for $40 nowadays. 2. This camera has a 149º viewing angle. From the things I've read, you may find this to be too narrow a field for what you want to do. I'm interested to hear what you find when you try it out.
  13. HD Front Camera setup for under $75, no Tazer required?

I had to back burner this project for the last few weeks while I finished up the summer semester at school, but I actually got out there yesterday for a few minutes. I have good news, I have bad news, and I have a need.. Bad news: It appears a CVBS camera will not work using the HD (Fakra)...
  14. Trail Cam from Gladiator to Wrangler

Anyway... I got all my parts today. Hopefully I can do some testing tomorrow. Still need another OEM camera. I don't know where to find an aftermarket one. At least not with a Fakra connection.
  15. Trail Cam from Gladiator to Wrangler

Yes, and yes. The difference is the input in the back of the head unit. Anything that is connected to it is displayed in SD. The JT has a Video Processing Unit, which is basically an HD switcher. The selected camera is then routed to the HD input in the back of the radio.

  17. HD Front Camera setup for under $75, no Tazer required?

Thanks. I've already spent more than most options already available, but I think it's worth it to the community to keep working to find a great solution that everyone can reproduce with great results at a reasonable cost. If I spend $800 researching and testing different products it will be...
  18. Trail Cam from Gladiator to Wrangler

Very funny, lol Also funny. The point is the Tazer doesn't modify the rear input at all. That is what I am trying to accomplish What we know about the trail cam option so far is it uses a video processing unit that receives both the front and rear camera inputs, then switches which one the...
  19. HD Front Camera setup for under $75, no Tazer required?

Okay, here's an update... I ended up buying this stuff from Amazon yesterday. It's not the most efficient setup given the Fakra to BNC connectors and a switch that I'm going to have to disassemble to modify for my purposes, this setup costs about $50 per Jeep. Pair it all up with a Gladiator's...
