  1. 4.0 2004 compared to 3.6 2022

^ This. I've owned two TJs - still driving one of them. Manual trannies with the 4.0 straight 6. The low end grunt of the straight 6 is why some call this a "tractor engine". When I'm on trail rides with other Jeep buddies, the guys with the V6 engines are amazed that I can drive my Jeep...
  2. 4 vs. 6 question from a dumb newb

Most of the people working at the dealerships are clueless - don't know the difference between an I6 and a V6. I went into a dealership and told them I wanted to order a Rubicon with the diesel engine........they told me Jeep didn't put diesel engines in the Wrangler. My 2006 pictured in my...
  3. Revealed: Custom SEMA 2021 Jeeps - 4xe concept, Overlook 3-row concept, Kaiser M725 concept

If I were to see that Overlook sitting at a Jeep dealer I'd have to run home and get my checkbook. That would be perfect for me! LOVE that color...except for the black interior.
  4. Which powertrain would you get?

Yes they are! The new JL Wranglers, with all the complicated electronics that are leaving people stranded, are NOTHING like my old dependable TJs. The TJs didn't have all of this electronic crap that would disable the Jeep so I'm happy these "strangers" are informing me there's a problem!
  5. Which powertrain would you get?

Well, I'm happy that SOMEONE has a dependable new Wrangler. Just finished reading the post by Dale62 about his Rubi going crazy, having to be towed - and all the others folks chiming in with similar experiences - and it makes me think I'd better stay with my old but dependable TJ!
  6. New 2021 Rubicon Unlimited went absolutely crazy..

^This! Put a decent modern engine in one of those and I'd be at the dealership, checkbook in hand.
  7. Which powertrain would you get?

Wow. Just Wow. Are you the same guys I see on these forums having a conniption fit every time Consumer Reports rates the dependability of the Wrangler as below average? I own a TJ. But I'm on these forums because I'm doing my research, trying to decide on a new vehicle - one a bit more...
  8. Which powertrain would you get?

Yes. The newer diesels (those with all the new emissions equipment on them) need to be run hot to keep the emissions systems clean and happy. The hotter the engine runs the more soot is burned off before it gets into all the emissions stuff that's supposed to collect it and then burn it off...
  9. Which powertrain would you get?

Of course! Applies to gas engines also. I have a very good friend with a 2021 Ram 1500, 5.7 V8. Just had a bad injector changed under warranty. On the other hand, I have a 60 year old John Deere diesel that is still on the original injectors.
  10. Which powertrain would you get?

Been driving diesels for many years - have two of them now. NEVER have had to change a high pressure fuel pump or an injector. The gas engines have their problems too...took a screen shot of what a gas engine Jeep owner posted not long ago. Places I take my Jeep this message would cause a...
  11. Which powertrain would you get?

^This. I suppose if you take your rig back to the dealer and let them do the oil changes, charging list prices for oil and filters and for the labor to do the job, it would be expensive. If you do the maintenance yourself the cost isn't nearly as high. I've been driving diesels for more years...
  12. For Those Who Change Their Own Oil

^ This. Although I ended up using "EZ Drain" equivalents because at the time no one had the Fumoto available. I started using these because a couple of my vehicles had the drain in the side of the oil pan - removing the drain plug squirted oil all over suspension components. I run the rig up...
  13. Would you buy a Lambent Earth colored JL?

Same here! Loved that color combination. Especially the all-tan interior that didn't show every grain of dust the way the black interior in my current Jeep does. If Jeep would offer a similar interior/exterior color combination now I'd be down at the dealer placing an order right now. Here's...
  14. Interesting data on curb weights with different engines

The above charts are just confusing to me...some showing the diesel not much heavier than some gas models. Yet Jeep states that the diesel engine is ~ 400 lbs heavier than any of their gas engines.
  15. I never thought I’d say this

I can't wait for fall weather either. It was 101 degrees here last Wednesday, and the last time we saw any appreciable rain was back in March. The extreme drought has caused our back roads to turn into silt beds. In some places the silt is so deep the axles are leveling it. Not a place...
  16. carrying extra gas?

Don't know if this style carrier is available for the newer Jeeps. Mounts directly to the bumper on a pivoting arm along with the spare tire: Just checked the website...Hite supposedly has gas and diesel available 7 days a week. That would save quite a few miles versus going back to...
  17. Best Wrangler for Long Road Trips

My apologies for bringing up the Grand Cherokee then. Just wanted to share that the perceived image of something may not be the same as the reality of living with it.
  18. Best Wrangler for Long Road Trips

We all know that. Just wanted to save the OP some pain...had a very good friend who fell in love with the Wrangler image so she bought a beautiful Sahara Unlimited. Kept it about a year before she couldn't stand it any longer and traded it off for something more road trip friendly (she never...
  19. Best Wrangler for Long Road Trips

For a road trip? And you insist on a Jeep? From a long-time Jeep Wrangler owner...unless you are a masochist, get a Grand Cherokee and forget about the Wrangler. Wranglers feel at home on dirt trails. Grand Cherokees feel at home on pavement. You'll have your choice of 3 different V-8...
  20. When the dealership checks to see if youve abused your jeep…

Very low - the cab is not very tall. So the seat sits so low (so your head doesn't contact the ceiling if you're tall) that it feels like you are sitting on the floor with your feet sticking straight out in front of you. Very uncomfortable off road...and for me, on road also.
