I would say it really depends on how much you're willing to spend.
There isn't anything that one can do that any another Wrangler can't. A YJ,TJ,JK,JL can all run the same trails. The JL Rubicon is undoubtedly nicer than a JK, but is it $20,000 nicer? $45 - $60k is A LOT of money for how basic...
IMHO Wranglers shouldn't have 4 doors. If you want 4 doors buy a Cherokee. I wouldn't hold it against someone if they bought a 4 door though. I just think they look ... weird (poser-ish?) ... like when you see some Toyota owner driving around with their doors off.
Where I live I was told it would be around August for what I wanted (2 dr Rubicon with the powered top). I live in the middle of Oregon though and not a big city so that might have a lot to do with it.
You don't need lockers and a Rock-Trac TC to drive on dirt roads.
FWIW you can do this with open diffs and a Dana 35c.
So I think you'd be better off with the Sahara. You can always build onto it later on if you want to do more with the Jeep.
If you owe 18K and you can sell it to CarMax for 16k then I would just suck it up and pay the negative equity with $3k of your down payment money and use the rest on a Sahara.
If you tried to trade it in now, the stealership would probably find a way to screw you over on the trade and take as...
Brand New vs Brand New with both on the same lot I don't know why anyone would pick the JK over a JL. You'd have to be drunk or high.
I'll admit I did just bought a JK instead of waiting for the JL cause I couldn't wait till summer when the dealerships here plan to stock them . I...
Rubicon JL comes with 33's right? I'll probably run with those until I need new tires or start having problems on the trail and go from there.
35's and the 2 inch lift would look nice but no point in adding the extra tire weight if I don't need it.
Maybe I just run with the wrong group of people, but I've never seen a Bronco on the trail. I'm sure they'll out there somewhere. So I see it as more of a competitor to the Hummer/Toyota/Big SUV crowd. It'll sell because people want the look, like with the Hummer craze.
A XJ or KK. I thought about getting a KK and lifting it with 33's when they first came out.
If that wasn't a possibility then a Fiat 695 Abarth. Tiny car, but a lot of fun to drive with a damn good exhaust note from the factory.
It was actually pretty nice for the whole week that I had it. I never got the chance to test it out off road but on road was great. It had a pretty cool feature that you could set so it automatically lower and raise to make getting in and out easier. Which was nice with the 6 inch lift.
I'd go for the diesel but I doubt I could wait that long. If they add a lot of EGR/DEF emissions control stuff I wouldn't bother though.
They've already improved the crawl ratio on the Rubicon so I'd be happy with the 295 torque from the hurricane engine and the auto. The ZF 8 speed trans is nice.
Might as well post in this thread and introduce myself.
I have a 88 YJ that I saved from a salvage yard about 10 years ago with more blood, sweat and tears put into it than one should admit. I used to have a 06 TJ but it was stolen out of my driveway shortly after I installed an AiRock lift...
