  1. 3.6L ESS Bad Aux Battery No Start Firmware Fix

Sounds like you just discovered a free way to permanently disable ESS... I mean, aside from taking your doors off and putting them back on a few times, which can result in bent pins in the door wiring harness and all kinds of weird errors, including ESS being disabled. I did get all the latest...
  2. 2.0 Turbo Engine Oil. Book says 5w-30 and dealer used 5w-20

While you’re under the hood check to ensure they put five quarts in, not six.
  3. Just got road raged by a Karen

My worst road rage incident occurred when I was young and dumb (of course). I was 16 and driving across Florida to visit family. I was in my mom’s old Scion TC on the turnpike, in the left lane going about 10 mph over the speed limit and fairly reasonably passing cars going the speed limit in...
  4. My Cheap Essential Offroading Equipment / Gear List

Yeah... gotta say, I’m with @oceanblue2019 re: shills and their products (paid shill is redundant). I won’t go so far as to count it against a company though. Here’s the thing: you can’t look at these types of videos as reviews; think of them as advertisements instead and you’ll be much...
  5. Wrangler imagined as a Sedan

From the A-pillar back it has hints of a Mercedes W124. The Nissan, though hideous, is the only one I could see the respective automaker actually making.
  6. Dogs in a 2-door?

With the back seat in place it’s a bit of a process. I have a similarly-sized Airedale terrier (72 lbs) and to get him in the back, he has to hop on the passenger seat then climb back there. Normally the back seat is out though and he just jumps up through the tailgate. You may have to lift your...
  7. 2019 Jeep Wrangler | Long-Term Wrap Up Review by KBB

This is KBB who apparently use human beings to review their cars instead of algorithms. Wait for a Consumer Reports review; they’re the ones who will bash it (if they haven’t already).
  8. Why Are Lightweight Vehicles Better Off-Road Than Heavier Vehicles, Or Are They?

My simple crocodile brain explanation is that a vehicle that meets all the safety standards and feature expectations of the 21st century is not going to be so light that it has to worry about losing traction because of lack of weight. Even my ~3300 lbs YJ did not have this problem.
  9. What music do you jam to when you are in your Jeep?

Like @Headbarcode I am also all over the place. Lately I’ve been jamming, in no particular order: -All Hell Breaks Loose -Lamb of God -Die Antwoord -Charley Crockett -Wu-Tang Clan -Dropkick Murphy’s -The Dubliners -Mobb Deep -Nas -Butthole Surfers And a lot of times I’ll just put on...
  10. Looks Like Ford Bronco is Serious About Taking on the Wrangler

Ha! It wasn’t Tiefort I was talking about, it was in the Brown pass area if I remember correctly. But yeah that’s a good point. Anyway the point I was trying to make about the HMMWV is not that it can compete with purpose-built off road vehicles, and not that it’s a great rock crawler, but...
  11. Looks Like Ford Bronco is Serious About Taking on the Wrangler

Guys... I’m talking about a two-seater, not-up-armored HMMWV, and I’m not talking about tank trails. The grade we went up was legitimately scary and I seriously doubt if my JLR could have made it up that. The guys in the bed basically had to stand on the tailgate as we were climbing. I guess...
  12. Looks Like Ford Bronco is Serious About Taking on the Wrangler

By the way... does no one remember the HMMWV? It has independent suspension in the front and rear. And trust me, that thing can go fucking anywhere. Not saying Ford is going to go with that setup with the Bronco, but it makes for an interesting thought experiment. The HMMWV has double A-arm...
  13. ECU update = much more responsive throttle and MT fixes

Is your jeep no longer under warranty? These sound like updates that should happen free of charge.
  14. Looks Like Ford Bronco is Serious About Taking on the Wrangler

Of course Ford executives predict that. What do you expect them to say about their upcoming Wrangler-fighter? “It’ll do alright... probably along the lines of the FJ Cruiser. Once pent up demand dwindles we’ll quietly cancel it.” No, this is their prize welterweight champ that they’re tagging in...
  15. My Cheap Essential Offroading Equipment / Gear List

Oh yes I see your post now and definitely agree- a good military issue e-tool can be invaluable in any number of situations. Only word of caution is that the link you posted may not be shipping legit mil spec e-tools anymore based on the recent reviews. I happen to have three or four of them in...
  16. My Cheap Essential Offroading Equipment / Gear List

Definitely add this: 550 cord, aka paracord, aka Type III Nylon, aka survival cord. 100’ or more.
  17. Radio screen locked up and not turning back on

yeah true. I would imagine that my old radio went somewhere to get refurbished and sent to someone else’s JL too so it’s not a total waste.
  18. Radio screen locked up and not turning back on

I had the compass in my JLR telling me incorrect directions or just a dash instead of a direction. Radio replaced under warranty. It’s disconcerting that the fix so often seems to be to replace the whole thing.
  19. DANA Plant closing in KY

Are you implying that the answer is obvious? I think it’s self evident that it’s because of money; do you think perhaps @DarthSidious was wondering what was causing it to be financially unsustainable?
  20. Daytime running lights in fenders are too bright compared to the round ones in headlights....imo

Jeeze D60, I didn’t even know the default setting of the DRLs or halos (when I’m in the driver’s seat, which is always, I don’t notice these kinds of things), and you’re telling me if you passed me on the street you’d assume I had self worth issues and/or was trying to compete with Civics?! Also...
