  1. Bent soft top rod due to stuck locking mechanism

You aren't wrong, but I chose safety over immediate concern about cost. I was stuck in a thunderstorm needing to drive with 3 young kids in the back. "Oh just let it get wet" wasn't what was on my mind. Luckily for me the part is the passenger side which is about $92 from allmoparparts -...
  2. Bent soft top rod due to stuck locking mechanism

All: Looking for some mild advice on what could have gone wrong and confirming my planned next steps. I've had my JL for over a year and never had an issue with my softtop - removing windows, retracting, folding all the way down, putting back up, latching. Never an issue. Yesterday when I put...
  3. Need Prayers sent to me. I am taking about 15 Jeep women camping and Jeeping this weekend.

So....your weekend is basically a couple of hours of "work" a day and the rest of the time enjoying the great outdoors, relaxing, boozing, and being surrounded by women having fun. And you are asking for prayers. I don't think you understand what it means to be a "role model" that others may...
  4. 2018 JL Clutch Recall

Whoever told you "If the Check engine light doesn't come on it should be fine to drive" knows nothing about cars. I'm sorry for your experience.
  5. Daily Driver JLUS 6mt - 1 year review - question on tires

For what it's worth, I agree with you. And there is absolutely no need for A/T for driving in beach sand - you actually don't want the "digging" action some A/Ts do in sand either. A/Ts will enable better airing down while holding a bead and not getting tire damage, but that's about it. FWIW, I...
  6. Daily Driver JLUS 6mt - 1 year review - question on tires

I really appreciate this feedback. I do have the 3.6 with 6mt and I find the power....adequate in most situations. The stock tire size is 255/70/18 which is right at 32". I could go to 32.6" with 265/70 (which still offers more highway oriented tires). 275/70/18 seems to be E-rated tires only...
  7. 2019 Jeep Wrangler | Long-Term Wrap Up Review by KBB

You can't compare the auto trans from the 3.6 to the 2.0 - it's programmed differently. It's definitely fantastically done in the 3.6 (as it should be - this trans has been the industry standard since it came out years ago)
  8. Daily Driver JLUS 6mt - 1 year review - question on tires

I have not had the recall performed yet and I'll have to mention the clutch smell unfortunately. In relation to the LSD issue (assuming you have the LSD?): I haven't had any issues with 4H/4L on any surface BUT deep/soft sand driving up an incline from a stop. Nowhere else.
  9. Daily Driver JLUS 6mt - 1 year review - question on tires

P.s. I detailed the Jeep inside the garage using a single bucket, wash mitt, optimum no rinse (1 ounce per 2 gallons water), an old chamois, and then a spray & wipe with Sonax PolyNetShield which is a fantastic sealant. Took me maybe a relaxed hour to do and that was inside the garage. I highly...
  10. Daily Driver JLUS 6mt - 1 year review - question on tires

Hi all: My wife and I bought our JLU Sahara 6mt a bit over a year ago. Firecracker red, black cloth, soft top, limited slip differential, 6mt, upgraded sahara wheels, a few other options. We bought it to be a fun vehicle, a "drive on the beach" vehicle in DE, and an occasional winter vehicle...
  11. Steering - a careful analysis

I'm honestly unsure your question. When I read the study results by Avon it appeared they test the same tire, at fixed tire pressures, under different loads and measured contact patch size. So, by default, the tire pressure was pre-set at the start of each test (i.e. no load) and then the test...
  12. Steering - a careful analysis

It's funny but that very same star case references two things: 1. If the steering gear is out of spec it's bad and needs to be replaced. A viable problem with instructions on detection and an unknown incidence rate. 2. That FCA has investigated many such cases and found the JL was operating...
  13. Steering - a careful analysis

Your argument appears to be "I get your point but our tires are special." I don't mind being challenged but this is a foolish challenge. Chalk tests are common in every tire. A chalk test does not measure contact patch. It measures tread width exposure to road surface. IT DOES NOT MEASURE TOTAL...
  14. Steering - a careful analysis

Ok, I promised a data backed link and argument and not just my own internet-persuading. Here's one of the best examples I know of using a study by Avon tire on contact patch area, tire pressure, tire load, etc. https://www.enginebasics.com/Chassis%20Tuning/Tire%20Contact%20Patch.html Let me...
  15. Steering - a careful analysis

I’m sorry but this is incorrect. I’ll expand later with links to explanatory websites where you don’t have to take my word. For now I’ll just say this: you just posited that the total contact patch of a tire measured in square inches is linearly proportional to its tire pressure. That’s just...
  16. Steering - a careful analysis

Because on soft surfaces more of the tire sidewall and tire tread will make contact and spread out the weight at very low tire pressures At normal tire pressures and above on the road that does not happen. You have the same total surface area contact patch. Sure you may increase longitudinal...
  17. Steering - a careful analysis

Lowering tire pressure from 40-50 PSI to 35 PSI or similar does not increase contact patch. That’s a fundamental misunderstanding (common) of tire contact patch dynamics.
  18. Oh #*:;?/*':!** My Manual Transmission Just Died

Ps when a clutch fails that way there is a chance it can damage or mess up surrounding parts. So, for example, they may have the clutch but a flywheel is taking longer. Nonetheless the shop should be keeping you updated.
  19. Oh #*:;?/*':!** My Manual Transmission Just Died

It’s a one day job. Maybe two if it was started mid day. Either they didn’t prioritize it or they are waiting for parts to come in.
  20. Driving in deep sand - 19 Sahara 6mt with LSD

DE beach sand is really interesting. It's not "duny" though there's a solid incline to deal with. But it's incredibly rutted and soft from how many people drive it and "air up" the sand. It's amazing how many people get stuck to their frame on the beach. Anyway, I'm actively exploring how much...
