  1. Diesel fuel costs

I live in OC and sadly I'm seeing the average at $3.40/gal. Strangely enough it's actually cheaper to get gas up in LA country when I visit my GF by about $0.10-$0.15/gal.
  2. Tire weight in decision process?

They’re not bad. I did a road trip from LA to Denver and back and they were great on road with wind noise drowning out tire noise. Only did a gravel trail to get to a campsite and a proper 5 mile stretch of trail to get to another with only complaint being that the treads won’t really eject...
  3. Tire weight in decision process?

Even with a Diesel power plant weight was a huge factor for me since I'm already pushing that much more engine/exhaust weight from a standstill over the 3.6/2.0 which is why initially I went with take-off rubicon wheels and 33" Toyo ATIII since the Mopar diesel lift wasn't out yet. So far I've...
  4. Your 3.0L Diesel's MPG's, share with the class.

Only had the stock 31" road tires for the first 2 tanks, but I was averaging between 30-33 MPG while cruising at 75. Since then I've put on 33" A/T's and my average has dropped to 26-27, but with a good tailwind it will still climb back into the 30-31 range. Around town the mileage is a pretty...
  5. Legitimate question to diesel owners....

If you plan on mostly long highway trips get the diesel. If you plan on mostly staying local get the 2.0. I chose the diesel because anywhere that I was interested in going was at a minimum 150 miles away from my front door with most (80%) of the trips I knew I would be taking being between...
  6. Let The Fun Begin

Do you know how much actual lift you got with the 2" Mopar lift on the Sport since I've read that it adds more than the advertised 2" on non-Rubicon models? Also what size tires are you running now?
  7. Father’s Day trip from LA to Denver and back with the 3.0

Just got back Monday from a week long trip from LA to Denver and back to visit my GF's parents over fathers day with my Sport S Diesel and it was a blast to drive the whole way. The only modifications to it thus far are equivilant Rubicon take off wheels and tires but it still cruses nicely...
  8. Legitimate question to diesel owners....

Just got back Monday from a week long trip from LA to Denver and back to visit my GF's parents over fathers day with mine and it was a blast to drive the whole way. Cruses nicely between 75-78 and absolutely loves climbing hills at those speeds with minimum downshifting so it's pretty much...
  9. Gas mileage so far

I've only filled up twice so far. First tank was 28mpg with stock tires and 80% freeway driving @75 mph. Second tank was 26mpg after I put 285/70's on along with only 60% freeway driving and 2 trips to the mountains (about 5k ft of elevation gain) Going on a trip from socal to outside of...
  10. Have an EcoDiesel JL Sahara for the week...some observations.

If you get a non-rubicon diesel it's actually a great way to get a lot of the rubicon perks (front & rear 44 axles, better gearing, upgraded brakes) straight from the factory on top of getting the diesel.
  11. Aluminum skid plate for diesel

Skid plates always seem optional until you need them. $2k isn't a bad price for aluminum plates considering the weight savings and most good steel plates start at around $1200 anyway.
  12. What is the average age of a JL Rubicon owner

Paid cash for my TJ Rubicon when I was 23. Sold it when I was 30 while married to someone who initially enjoyed the outdoors and then started to hate it... then started to hate me about 5 years ago. Now I have a JLU diesel at 39 and a GF of 2 years that goes camping/hiking with me 2-3 times a...
  13. Diesel Lift Kit?

Anyone know if this extra 1" height carries over to the Sport and Sahara?
  14. Load range for a diesel

Looking to put new tires on my JL Sport S Diesel and I'am mostly concerned about all the added weight that a higher load rated tire would give me since a few of the options I'm looking at for tires come in either SL or E load rating with the difference in weight being about 10 lbs between a 4...
  15. Have an EcoDiesel JL Sahara for the week...some observations.

The average MPG readout the OP posted on my diesel is usually 2-3 MPG lower than what my trip average MPG is listed as, and doing hand calculations at the pump the trip average MPG is usually spot on. On a trip from Temecula to OC my average MPG gauge was reading 30.1 while my trip MPG read 33.3.
  16. what about MPG

33.3 on a trip from Temecula to Orange with a stock Sport S 3.0 maintaining 75-80 mph. I have a trip to and from Denver planned for next month so plenty of time to see how much my MPG suffers once I finally decide on what tires I want to install.
  17. I went from Rubicon to Sport. AMA

I've also gone from a Rubicon to a Sport S. Rubicon was a 2004 TJ, dark blue. Only mods I did were a 2.5" suspension lift, quick disconnect, and 33" tires. Picked up my 2020 JLU Sport S Diesel (also dark blue) 3 weeks ago. Yes the Diesel is an expensive add, but the only things a Rubicon would...
  18. When does production start again?

a vaccine for the general public won’t be coming for at least 18 months
  19. Looks Like Ford Bronco is Serious About Taking on the Wrangler

It may be 28' long but it's maybe 14" wide and if it wasn't for it's length I could pick it up with one hand. She has a very specialized rack attachment that locks it down incredibly well even at highway speeds and in high cross wind conditions, but it absolutely requires mounting cross bars to...
  20. Looks Like Ford Bronco is Serious About Taking on the Wrangler

One more thing, the top off bronco in the background of the second image looks like it's the 2 door, and based on what I can (barely) make out seems like the bronco 2 door will have a bit more cargo space than the 2 door wrangler which would be perfect for my needs. Now they just need to put the...
