  1. Edmunds Jeep 4xe Review | A More Efficient Wrangler?

The battery is never depleted. When EV range is 0%, it still functions as a standard hybrid, maintaining enough electrical power to supplement the intermittent high power demands that are always brief and almost always result in an opportunity to recapture some energy for the next surge. The...
  2. Car and Driver trashes the 4xe

Guessing it's just a brief reduction in the electric motor power. That 170ft/lb delta from the electric motor is fully available from 0 rpm. So, multiplied by the low first gear of the 8spd and the final axle drive ratio puts a lot of torque down at the wheels at launch.
  3. Edmunds Jeep 4xe Review | A More Efficient Wrangler?

That's fine, but many will pay a premium for performance. The 4xe is much closer to the performance of the 392 (which weighs almost the same with it's V8 and is $20k more, by the way) than the 2.0t or 3.6. So, the 4xe gives many benefits.
  4. Car and Driver trashes the 4xe

I posted a few times on that silly review. I don't know why they keep reviewing the Rubicon, purpose built for off road, but then focus on on-road drivability. If that's what they wanted to focus on, why not test the Sahara? It's still more capable off road than 99% of the vehicles they test...
  5. Car and Driver trashes the 4xe

the article claimed launch torque is limited in 2wd mode. I have a 4xe and haven't had it in 4wd Auto much, but based on seat of the pants testing, it does seem true. I had it in 4wd Auto during a recent rain storm and I couldn't believe how fast it got off the line.
  6. Edmunds Jeep 4xe Review | A More Efficient Wrangler?

Do either of those have 375hp, 470lbs-ft of torque and a 0-60 time of 6 seconds?
  7. Who else besides me got eTorque and didn't know what they bought?

Agree - pretty sure eTorque units on 2.0t and 3.6 are liquid cooled. The eTorque in Hemi is air cooled.
  8. Edmunds Jeep 4xe Review | A More Efficient Wrangler?

I rarely plug in my 4xe and I get 21 mpg in almost entirely urban, short trip driving and I do not baby the throttle. In the same driving with my former Mustang ecoboost, I got 18 mpg. I find this very impressive. It's easy to overlook that the larger PHEV battery also allows for more peak...
  9. Who else besides me got eTorque and didn't know what they bought?

I do see how some have claimed there are cooling lines running into the battery pack. I have a 4xe, so cannot confirm. Is it possible the heavy gauge electric wires are being confused for cooling lines? This is one of the sources I looked at regarding Wrangler...
  10. Who else besides me got eTorque and didn't know what they bought?

No, it does not have a 12v alternator. The 48v battery pack includes a 3kw DC-DC converter that powers all 12v needs. Yes, there is still a 12v battery to store power for 12v accessories. Yes, there is still a 12v starter that is only used for cold starts, but the 48v BSG handles all of the...
  11. Who else besides me got eTorque and didn't know what they bought?

Don't get the concern about the eTorque. First it replaces two electrical components (starter and alternator) with one, more powerful component that's better suited for both purposes (restarting engine and generating electrical power). Plus, you get a Lithium battery that will far outlast any...
  12. 4xe purchase and 1150 mile drive home

I took my first long trip in my 4xe Sahara. Had 500 miles on the odometer at the start. Was loaded with our family of 4, packed to the gill with camping gear and 4 bikes on the back. Travelled 200 miles each way, from Boston to western NY, which takes you through mountains and is far from...
  13. 4xe purchase and 1150 mile drive home

Buying a 4xe isn't just about the 25 miles of electric range - you are also getting an extra 105hp and 175ft-lbs of torque. Where else can you get a bump like that with small hit to highway fuel economy? For most people, they will get better real world fuel economy without even plugging it in.
  14. 115v AC outlet on 4xe

Through some research, it does look like the 4xe has the benefit of the 12v battery being backed up by the main drive battery through the DC-DC converter module. That's how the 12v is charged on the 4xe's, since there is no 12v alternator. I'm not as concerned about the low wattage rating on...
  15. 115v AC outlet on 4xe

Does anyone know if the 115v AC outlet is backed up by the main drive battery on the 4xe or just the 12v starter battery? Trying to figure out how much juice I can get from it without the engine running. One would think the main drive battery, but I know the non-Xe's have the same plug.
  16. 1 month with the Wrangler 4XE

I am sure my Sahara with the on-road tires and my mostly urban driving helps, but I am consistently getting 26-29 miles of EV range and I am by no means babying it.
  17. 1 month with the Wrangler 4XE

Time will tell about durability, but based on their specs it sounds like they are taking the usual precautions to only fast charge up to 80% and then slow down to normal speeds. Most modern lithium batteries can handle that. If you can deplete 80% of the battery in 20 minutes, shouldn't you be...
  18. 1 month with the Wrangler 4XE

I love everything about my 4xe, but I think the biggest miss is the lack of generator hookups like the F-150 Pro Power options. The drive motor is 2x more powerful and the battery has about 18x more capacity. Being a frequent tailgater and camper, that would have been nice. Any chance Jeep...
  19. 1 month with the Wrangler 4XE

Disagree on DC fast charge incompatibility. The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, with a smaller 13.8 kWh battery, has it and can charge 80% in 25 mins. I'd argue that is more important for a PHEV than a full electric. PHEVs require more frequent charging to maximize.
  20. Owners show off your new 4xe!

Had my Sahara for about a week now. Was hard to find all the options I wanted (basically everything - Skyslider, limited-slip, trailer tow/HD electric, cold weather, both security pkgs, proximity entry), so found one in-transit and jumped on it. Sting Grey wasn't my first choice initially, but...
