  1. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

Mine was like yours...I switched out the whole system fro a hydraulic aftermarket. Steers like a dream, and I don't have to wonder if the electric system will crap out
  2. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

My JL's steering issues were in the gearbox itself. 5 trips to the dealer did no good. After discovering there was an aftermarket HYDRAULIC steering replacement, I went with it. No more electrical problems, lots more torque, and smooth steering. No worries about electrical failure or overheating...
  3. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

I heard that some of the electric steering boxes might "check out". They couldn't fix mine, but I found an aftermarket HYDRAULIC system. No electric! No drift, extra smooth operation, and more torque if I choose bigger wheels. Already had my buggy in really deep mud - and credit the new system...
  4. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

very funny. trying to respond to one specific comment
  5. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

I DID swap out the electric steering (awful) for a really good heavy duty hydraulic steering syste, and wow - what a difference. Plus, I do not have to worry about electrical malfunctions or overheating.
  6. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

What do you mean "like a hog" … mine chugs down the road very well, corners well, and is smooth to drive. How is yours different?
  7. Newbie - is this normal for a Jeep questions

I had major issues with the electric steering they put on my JL. I "upgraded" to a good hydraulic system. Resulting in much better control (no slop at all in steering), and the happy thought that the hydraulic won't cut out or overheat or anything.
  8. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

My dealer said the same. That's when I started looking for something else, and discovered a HYDRAULIC REPLACEMENT. Loving the way it steers now.
  9. Lifelong wrangler driver. Considering jumping ship...

The "Death Wobble" has been discovered to be a bad seal. There is a factory fix for it. The seal is prone to leak air, and when it happens it can set up a resonance. Replacing the cylinder fixes it right away. (Have not had to do that, but it does seem to happen more when colder.)
  10. Loose 2018 Wrangler Steering FIXED !

What was done was to have the steering system replaced, using the heavy duty hydraulic swap-out from Performance Steering Components. The Hydraulic pretty much replaces the electric system. It can be done by anyone familiar with mechanical auto stuff, but I chose to have an experienced Jeep...
  11. Loose 2018 Wrangler Steering FIXED !

    That's about the right price.
  12. Loose 2018 Wrangler Steering FIXED !

Sorry about incomplete. Yes, box is replaced. My conversion cost about $3400, but that's based on my estimated use. Quadratec or PSC might recommend something else
  13. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

Did not bother. The Wrangler drives like a dream, no more driving like a bumper car. I'd post a short video, but this system won't let me
  14. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

Did not get ram. Essentially, the hydraulic package replaces everything that was electrical. Including the electric steering box. Also got the Tazer Mini JL. Now, my ride doesn't insist on cutting off the engine at every stop sign, among other fun things. Worth checking THAT out too! Install...
  15. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

The kit completely replaced the factory box. Problem solved. Oh, the new box can be adjusted!
  16. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

That has to be your call. The electric steering in my opinion has a built-in dead spot. It CAN also overheat, unlike s belt driven hydraulic. I took mine in already for routine oil service w no prob. Am waiting however to get the damper (death wobble source) replaced. Don't expect troubles
  17. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

I had the Alpha Dealer (seasoned Jeep technician from sister store in Raleigh) install the PSC from Quadratec. PK 1880 Pump Kit for JL 2028-2019.
  18. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

Try the kit from Performance Steering Components. I had it put on my 2018 JL, and the thing steers perfectly. No loose whatsoever. Feel free to ask any question you want! I WOULD do this again in a heartbeat.
  19. Loose 2018 Wrangler Steering FIXED !

I took my JL in to the Jeep dealership for oil change. They didn't even notice I had changed the steering. One extra added plus - the TAZR unit which I ordered along with the POS steering, allows you to "uncheck" the automatic engine shutoff every time you come to a stop sign!
