  1. JL Reliability Opinions/Thoughts

While I'd agree that CR's ratings skew in favor of suburban blandness, While I agree that the reviews of Consumer Reports skew toward suburban blandness, I think the Wrangler is kind of tough to categorize. Until Ford actually gets around to manufacturing the Bronco, I think it's almost in a...
  2. JL Reliability Opinions/Thoughts

They're still tough on the Wrangler. They've got it rated lowest in its category, and by a wide margin. (you'll see it's rated #10 of 11, but when you wonder what's #11 and go to their rankings you discover it's the Ford Bronco, which they haven't tested yet, of course). They have some pretty...
  3. JL Reliability Opinions/Thoughts

Yes, I've heard that about the current-generation Tacoma. I owned a first-gen ('98 TRD Off-Road) and a second-gen ('13 SR5). I actually preferred the '98. Even though the 3.4L V-6 was only rated at 190HP, it always felt quicker to me than the 2013. Of course, it was a much smaller truck and must...
  4. JL Reliability Opinions/Thoughts

The funny thing is that I bought my Wrangler to replace a 2013 Toyota Tacoma which I had purchased new and driven every day without any problems at all for 6 years. I had convinced myself that the Tacoma was boring me to tears and that even though it'd probably soldier on for the rest of my...
  5. JL Reliability Opinions/Thoughts

Well, one great thing about having had a Jeep is that it made me finally break down and buy a really good battery charger (NOCO genius 10). After 5+ months with my Audi, while I do miss the "go anywhere" capability of the Wrangler, I have to say it's awfully nice to be able to drive down the...
  6. Which one of these 3 options would you pick?

Congratulations, hope you love your new Wrangler! Just curious, though: that photo looks REALLY familiar...is that Lake Lansing, out in Haslett?
  7. Is the JL the worst Jeep ever?

I got an "Urgent Attention Alert" for my old Jeep recently. This was a couple weeks after I'd traded it in (with 5,395 troublesome miles) on my new Audi. Don't know what the engine malfunction was...maybe the dealer overfilled the oil when they did an oil change. I hope they fixed this problem...
  8. Is the JL the worst Jeep ever?

Thanks, Jay! I'm glad your Jeep is working out well for you - I really wish mine had for me. I was very excited and happy when I ordered it, but I think I had more issues in 5,395 miles with the Jeep than I did in about 250,000 miles in various Toyotas. Oh well, onward and upward. Right now I'm...
  9. Is the JL the worst Jeep ever?

I'll hold off on any more union stories for now before I bore you to tears. Here's my old Jeep...looks pretty nice, doesn't it? https://www.serratraversecity.com/inventory/used-2019-jeep-wrangler-unlimited-sahara-4wd-4d-sport-utility-1c4hjxen6kw635818/
  10. Is the JL the worst Jeep ever?

Ah, good old Grand Blanc. I've spent a lot of time down there. My wife grew up there (McCandlish Rd. at Irish Rd.) and her late father's stoneyard is on Saginaw St. just north of Hill Rd. -- and I've been to Warwick Hills for the Buick Open several times. I was always happy to get on I-75 and...
  11. Is the JL the worst Jeep ever?

Yeah, you're right -- I never should have bought the Jeep. The other thing that I was considering at that time was a Toyota 4Runner and I've had AWFULLY good luck with Toyota vehicles over the years (2 Tacomas, 1 Land Cruiser, and a 2000 4Runner Limited). But I just couldn't pull the trigger on...
  12. Is the JL the worst Jeep ever?

Me, too, Jay. I grew up in Milford, Michigan (home of the GM Proving Grounds) and back when I graduated from high school (1974) you could go a few miles down the road and immediately start working at the big Ford plant in Wixom, making a heck of a lot more money than I did as a poor kid working...
  13. Is the JL the worst Jeep ever?

I think you meant pervasive, not persuasive, but as a lifelong resident of Michigan I know exactly what you mean. I've heard so many stories from people who work "in the plants" and had such bad luck with American made cars, that I've probably owned more "foreign" cars than the average Michigan...
  14. Is the JL the worst Jeep ever?

Yes, totally agree. I ordered my Sahara with a ton of various options to try to make it as comfortable as possible, but I'd have been far better off spending that money on a Grand Cherokee (or an Audi). The extent of my off-roading is pretty much limited to putt-putting down a sandy two-track to...
  15. Is the JL the worst Jeep ever?

Traded in on a new Audi Q5. Somebody's going to get what, at first glance, is a very nice Jeep with only 5,395 miles. Time will tell on the Audi, of course, but for now it's nice to be able to take the dogs on an excursion and not leave it running while we're on our hike. I **will** say this...
  16. Is the JL the worst Jeep ever?

When you walk out there to plow and everything is white, buried under 2' of snow, it's awfully nice to know where the driveway ends and the lawn begins. (And yes, we're having a p***-poor winter up here. The snow should be near the tops of those driveway markers by now.)
  17. Is the JL the worst Jeep ever?

Well, I voted with my wallet. Bye-bye, Jeep!
  18. Which one of these 3 options would you pick?

Ahhh, good old Lansing. :) I remember cruising down Saginaw Street in my Triumph TR-7, rocking out to Pink Floyd on my Blaupunkt 8 track. That was many, many years ago, and comfort now comes in way ahead of music for me. I would NEVER have another car without both heated seats and a heated...
  19. Which one of these 3 options would you pick?

I live a couple hundred miles north of you now, but I spent many years in the Lansing area. You don't get anywhere near the snow that we do up here in Leelanau County, but without the moderating effect of Lake Michigan, you're often just as cold if not colder. All 3 of those are worthwhile...
  20. 2021 Wrangler Ditches 2.0L eTorque Mild Hybrid Engine

Me, too -- but we must be in the minority. I'm getting rid of my Jeep and it turns out that the 2019 2.0 eTorque engine (which was a $1000 upcharge when I ordered it) is now a $680 DEDUCTION according to Kelley Blue Book.
