  1. How to tighten steering.

I've done 1, 7, 8, 8#2, 9(don't recommend), and 10 - installed custom LCA's to fix castor on my 2.5" lift. I suffered from steering wander from day one. Took it to dealer twice, no help. Did a 2.5" lift which did not affect the wandering either good or bad. Then last November my wife suddenly...
  2. Replaced both batteries

Had both Main and small battery replaced by dealer in January. It had to be ordered then due to backlog. Either the system is killing them or the suppliers are providing crap batteries, but either way, it seems there are too many failures to be random. Batteries have a 100+ year track record of...
  3. is the death wobble still a thing in the JL or is it too soon to tell?

Kinda ticked that FCA is throwing parts and money at this now and back when I was crying a river (see my previous posts) they wanted to charge me $500 for a Fox shock and threaten to cancel my warranty because of the 2.5" lift I installed. I declined and got the Falcon Nexus 2.2 adjustable. It's...
  4. is the death wobble still a thing in the JL or is it too soon to tell?

Thanks for the help. I've been eying some of those very parts based on recommendation from another forum member. But right now my budget is tapped with all that I've already done. It's under control for the moment but will probably go for the drag link and ball joint upgrade next.
  5. is the death wobble still a thing in the JL or is it too soon to tell?

Update: Unknown to me the dealer ordered the Fox steering stabilizer that they told me to go purchase on my own to fix the DW. I got a call asking when I'd like to come in to get installed. At first I was dumbfounded that they were now going to replace it for me. But that didn't last long when I...
  6. is the death wobble still a thing in the JL or is it too soon to tell?

Isn't it swell that Jeep service department threatens to call Jeep and void my warranty because I installed a lift kit myself. It must be a Mopar kit AND be installed by a "Certified" Jeep expert. Regardless of what is causing my DW - which did not occur for 5 months after the lift was...
  7. Caster Specification for the JL

Nice pictures. Is the last one your lower control arm length? I started with 24 7/16" and went up from there. Maybe I need to back it off the other way...
  8. Caster Specification for the JL

I agree 9 is too much but I tried 5.5, 6, 6.5, etc. I don't have digital, just a dial pointer but it's still close enough. The wobble won't go away.
  9. Caster Specification for the JL

I did. Had the wife go short range back & forth for a good 2-3 minutes while I looked at and held/felt every joint & bearing I could get my hands on. The ONLY one that felt a little suspicious was the ball joint connecting the pitman arm to the drag link. It rotates freely (as it should being a...
  10. Caster Specification for the JL

The one in Dallas north of DFW airport told me they couldn't get me in until mid February.
  11. is the death wobble still a thing in the JL or is it too soon to tell?

Sorry this is a modified copy of my post to another thread but with so many threads about steering I'ts hard to decide which to leave it on. I have Death Wobble. NOT shaking! (for the guy who insists we don't have DW) I've seen my Jeep from behind trailing my wife and the wheels looked like...
  12. Caster Specification for the JL

I am completely frustrated chasing whatever my problems are. Only 9K miles on my JL Sahara and death wobbles like crazy at any bump over 50mph! Did a Rough Country 2.5" spacer lift in June with wider 275/65-18" Coopers on 10" Helo rims. Diameter stayed almost identical to stock 32" rubber, just...
  13. Can Believe my gas mileage

Just did 660mile round trip to San Antonio from north Dallas in my JLU Sahara. Some luggage, wife and large son. I couldn’t get it over 18.4mpg. Headed south on I-35. Did around 75-80 most of the way. Did a little City driving and filled up. The calculated average was 17.9 whereas the computer...
  14. Remote Proximity Keyless Entry Functionality

Wife and I were 'duped' by the term "Keyless" when we bought our JL in February. 6 months later we STILL are wishing we had the proximity system. I gave her a carabiner to clip the FOB (aka "Brick") to her purse. I was sure to give her one of quality such as is used for rappelling to take...
  15. Loud cooling fan?

OK, for all the aircraft references I'd like to note that a 747 is not very loud. Try an old school DC-8 with JT3's or even a 707/737 with JT8's! Or for any USAF peeps, an F4 Phantom taking off with afterburner... ouch. :surprised:
  16. Highway Driving

I had the U62 recall performed last week. When I took it in the service writer said the new update would include all updates across the entire system so IF any electric power steering input updates were available it would be included. Whether he was blowing smoke up my tailpipe or not I don't...
  17. Highway Driving

My JLUS came with the Deuler H/T's and was a chore to keep centered on the road at highway speeds. Same issues as everyone else. Took it to dealer 1st week and was told there's nothing wrong with it. That was 3rd week of Feb. Maybe they hadn't had enough complaints yet to make them look deeper...
  18. 2018 JL Wrangler 3.6L Dyno Numbers

It must be the 98°+ temp here in Texas but my JL feels very sluggish at highway speeds. Especially when above 65-70mph. I know it’s not a light and slippery sports car but with the power its supposed to have I don't know why it struggles to pass trucks on the highway doing 70mph. It kicks down...
  19. 2018 JL Wrangler 3.6L Dyno Numbers

It must be the 98°+ temp here in Texas but my JL feels very sluggish at highway speeds. Especially when above 65-70mph. I know it’s not a light and slippery sports car but with the power it’s supposed to have it drops to 4th and screams to get around trucks at that speed. In fact, it seems to...
  20. FYI - JLU Rubicon Major Issues / Total Failure / Safety Concern

Hope there is a positive diagnosis and fix. I'd hate for this to be a random thing on random S/N vehicles. I'd rather have a recall to deal with than 'hope' it doesn't happen to me! On another note, is there a steering lock on the JL?? Without a physical ignition module that typically engages...
