  1. Rubicon Suspension on 2-door Sport

Here is an update on mine- Rubicon springs gave me 1.5" lift in the front and the change in geometry causes the drag link to pull the axle slightly to the side which turns the steering wheel a little bit. I finally got around to trying to center my wheel. I shortened the tie rod piece from the...
  2. OEM Battery...

Yes you can. There are massive threads here about batteries and such, I spent a long time reading. When I replaced my main battery I left the little battery disconnected. If you have a 2018 without flash updates this won't work. If you use the ESS you will have problems. Otherwise you can...
  3. Who has taken their JL on a long road trip and what was your experience like?!

I've had my 2018 JLU Sport almost a year and I've made 4 round trips Dallas to Denver and 1 round trip Moab and beyond. Denver trips are 12.5 hours each way, done straight through each way. Driving to Moab I drove straight through to Cortez, CO. Coming back I drove Moab straight through to...
  4. OEM Battery...

I have a lot of experience with flooded acid batteries. In the hot south, driving the car every day, with the battery under the hood where it gets the most heat exposure, my batteries typically last 34-37 months. This has been my experience consistently for 30 years. Change one of these...
  5. Mopar LCA swap

Torqing that much with a standard wrench is tough enough when you're in a good position, but for me to do it laying on the ground under the Jeep was not working. I ended up putting a small jack under the end of the torque wrench and pushing up on it. For the backup wrench, you just have to...
  6. Anybody want to go to White Rim / Maze in October?

I have reservations for campsites and would like to have another vehicle tag along, at least for the part in the maze.
  7. Does everyone think they are a naster mechanic

My family has been in the garage business for over 60 years. I know how independent garages work, I know how dealerships work, and I know how I work. I would not take a vehicle to the dealer except for something expensive that would be covered under warranty, but I haven't owned a vehicle...
  8. Which engine for Colorado passes?

I've driven I-70 many times in my 3.6L 8speed JLU Sport and have no complaints with its drivetrain. It's not a race car but it has always seemed plenty eager to go.
  9. Mopar LCA swap

That was my point after I thought about it some more. The lowers only move out by 1/4", but for those of us who are changing lowers due to adding a lift, the uppers are moving down by 1.5-2". That's what makes the most difference in the deformation in the bushing.
  10. Mopar LCA swap

Thinking about this a little bit more- I'm not sure the amount of rotation from changing LCA is significant compared to other factors, so that alone I don't think would justify messing with the UCA. IOW would loosening and tightening the bolts do more harm than good. OTOH rethinking what I...
  11. New battery, now it won’t start or turn off

It would be simple to externally jumper N2 and N3 to see if this makes a difference.
  12. Mopar LCA swap

I don't think it does. If the premise is that the control arms are put in place with the vehicle setting on the ground loaded and then torqued, so that there is no load (twist) on the rubber bushings while at rest, then yes lifting it will put some twist into the upper bushings. However the...
  13. New battery, now it won’t start or turn off

I haven't experienced much of this because I'm typically proactive and replace my batteries before they fail. Driving my car every day in the hot south, with the battery in the engine bay, my batteries would barely last 36 months. After a number of batteries failing like this in multiple...
  14. New battery, now it won’t start or turn off

If you have a 2018 that hasn't had a flash update, then there are ways that you can disconnect and bypass the small battery and the car will run just fine. There are threads here discussing this, very long threads. Maybe if you search for "jumper wire" you can find the right place to start...
  15. Rethink Moab this year?

Maybe pick another state instead? I drove through Moab 2 weeks ago and found that they have a big road construction project going on from the middle of the city extending beyond the north limits of the city. I was stuck in a 1 hour traffic jam getting into town. If you go to Moab to do trails...
  16. So.....I want to buy a DSLR....photographers with opinions?

Nikon, Canon, Sony, Fuji all have products that could work for you. You have to decide on sensor size- there are advantages and disadvantages to APS-C vs full frame, a disadvantage of full frame is the cost of the body and the cost and size of the lenses. There is very little image quality...
  17. Mopar LCA swap

Toe and camber cannot change, none of those parts are affected. Caster changes because the new LCA are longer, that's the point. Steering wheel alignment (centering) does change slightly but should be easy enough to correct. I have not corrected mine yet and this doesn't seem to affect...
  18. Can I fit 5 Rubicon Rims & Tires in the back of my JLU Sahara?

For the readers who have a Sport- going from the 245 minivan tires to Rubi KO2 takeoffs will be somewhere between 3.5 and 4% difference, meaning at 70mph indicated speed on the highway you will be doing 72-73mph. I've checked this roughly on some of the little "your speed is __" radar signs in...
  19. You might have a "mall crawler" if.....

There are owners that fancy that their LR and Lexus can conquer the world. Walking around my neighborhood I spotted a Lexus with black steel wheels and a decal on the window. I don't recall exactly what it said, but something like "Oh a Jeep, how Peasant".
  20. What first? Lift or camping essentials?

I don't buy things for appearance, I buy the gear that I need to make my next trip work. I've done a number of trails in Colorado with completely stock JLU Sport. I was ready to do trails in Utah and needed more durable tires and more clearance so I got Rubi takeoffs. I have a lot of old...
