  1. Coming "dieselgate" Recall

Heard rumor from a friend who is Service Tech that there may be a coming "recall" related to the charges against FCA of "manipulating" the emissions output of the 3.0 EcoDiesel, similar to the VW debacle. I'll be curious what that means for power & fuel economy if it comes to fruition. I'm sure...
  2. $6,000 premium for the Diesel

Well all those responses were way better than mine..... But the short answer is that the diesel motor is an additional $4k, and the heavier duty trans is $2k more. But yes, since the gas auto costs an additional amount, then the $6k "premium" is a deceiving statement.
  3. Steering wheel squeaking

Yep. I've got it too. Haven't explored it any farther though...
  4. AEV JLU Wrangler Build [SEMA 2019]

I think you definitely hit that nail on the head.... A blind following. They took their customers for granted, and now they are losing them. But also, and maybe I've missed this discussion somewhere else, but I think they actually more heavily & directly involved with Jeep/FCA. My understanding...
  5. Diesel Lift Kit?

I would bet that more actual "Engineering" (mathematical calculations RE: loading, load management, stresses, maintaining driveabilty, etc) went into the AEV kits than goes into most aftermarket suspension kits. But who really knows..... I'm just going with a company that has shown to build...
  6. Diesel Lift Kit?

"thought you might have an actual point." :CWL: I did, though making sure you understood it wasn't a priority.... My basic point was that FOR ME, having had a steering box brace on my pickup for years, and having had good luck with it (no death wobble, good solid steering on a 200k factory...
  7. Diesel Lift Kit?

I didn't read it that way...... my apologies.
  8. Diesel Lift Kit?

You mean like adding a diesel engine that increases the engine/trans weight by almost 500 lbs to a chassis & steering that was designed for the lighter weight gas motor? Got it. Apples & oranges.....
  9. Diesel Lift Kit?

OK..... Then don't put one on your rig.
  10. Diesel Lift Kit?

I said AEV figures that.... Generally, I'm sure it's true. But real world experience and use has shown that side loading the sector shaft of steering box when in technical rock terrain causes rapid wear and damage. The brace is cheap insurance in my book....
  11. Diesel Lift Kit?

It doesn't use new LCA's. They use geometry correction brackets to move the factory LCA's forward to maintain factory caster specs. Personally, I like AEV's approach to suspension. They figure the factory engineers get paid a lot to design them right, so why not mimic the factory exactly with...
  12. Regear for Ecodiesel - What Ratio

Well if you want to get specific.... Your factory Rubicon tires are 32.7" tall at about 40 psi and most "37's" are actually about 36.8" tall at 40 psi. So.... (36.8/32.7) x 3.73 = 4.1976 (4.2), so your 4.56 gears will definitely get you plenty of power. It will also take that 442 lbs ft of...
  13. Regear for Ecodiesel - What Ratio

And historically (going back to the old Dick Cepek catalogs in the 80's), the correction formula to maintain the "factory power" is: "new tire diameter/old tire diameter x current axle ratio = new axle ratio needed". So for my needs it would be 35/33 x 3.73 = 3.95. Not enough change to be worth...
  14. Regear for Ecodiesel - What Ratio

I'm sure folks are thinking about this, but I'll pipe in anyway. Are you all considering the vast amount more torque being applied by the diesel? 442 lb ft is more than my '93 Dodge/Cummins put out new (400 lb ft) , and it had Dana 60/70 axles. By most accounts, a 37" tire is the biggest you...
  15. Diesel Lift Kit?

I've got an AEV 2.5" dual sport (diesel specific) on order. I'll report back after its installed. I like the AEV mentality of "vehicle specific design". I'm sure that some of the hybrid stuff going here will work fine, but my goal is essentially "factory, but better". AEV designates specific...
  16. 3.0 Fuses

Exactly... The fuses are supposed to be seated during the PDI process at the dealership. Mine was supposedly "prepped", and yet I was in the 80% category of still needing to be seated. My bother in-law, a dealer service tech for 35 years was disgusted by that fact, and even suggested that if it...
  17. JL Window Sticker and Build Sheet Order Tracking

2021 JLURD in Sarge Green. Delivered to my dealer in Yuba City, CA yesterday morning, picked it up yesterday afternoon.... Just over 10 weeks from order to delivery. I'll take that. Let the games begin....
  18. JL Window Sticker and Build Sheet Order Tracking

:)..... Yep, and I do have a published Build Sheet. I think I'm coming around that bend in the tunnel where I'm seeing a little light at the end of it. Or else its a speeding train....
  19. JL Window Sticker and Build Sheet Order Tracking

And in the "spoke to soon" category, I just got my Crypto email telling me my window sticker was "Found", and sure enough, it's there. Sounds like I'm on track for something...
  20. JL Window Sticker and Build Sheet Order Tracking

Just a little hopeful info here. Ordered my JLURD on 08/20, got a build sheet just over week ago (no sticker yet); just talked to my dealer, and she says "it's been built and released to shipping. It shows it should arrive at our West Coast hub around 10/30, and most likely at the dealer the...
