  1. Half doors

They look great but what are they made of? I would worry about how they hold up over time to all the elements on a trail.
  2. Side Air Bags are Standard for 2018 Wrangler

Did they raise prices on export 2017 Wranglers as a result? I didn't see the exemption for end of life vehicles in the first post. Did I miss it?
  3. Future JL owners - what mods / modifications do you foresee/planning (so far)?

Depends what type of product. Obviously anyone selling grab bars and roll cages will take a bigger hit. Probably same goes for lighting (with the exception of light bars). But that's a tiny percentage of Jeep mods. Lifted with more rubber, winch and bumpers (my first mods) is a formula that's...
  4. Tipster says 6 engines and several top options for 2018 Wrangler JL / JLU

Agreed, with small displacement turbos how you drive it is even more determinative of how many miles you get between refueling. It'll make the biggest gains on the highway without traffic but hardly any difference (or even worse) in real world city mileage. That said, it will at least make up...
  5. New door hinges and handles spied

From other photos and angles you do see it's actually mounted on the pillar however. The hinges themselves are covered in camo while you can see where the mirror goes.
  6. First Look: New Wrangler Roof With MySky-Like Power Retractable Top

Wow that is not what I expected at all. Very interesting! They do look like buttons in that photo.
  7. Is the JL Wrangler going to be sufficient in a crash?

Sorry yes that was a typo, steel is of course denser than aluminum which is why you can increase the thickness of aluminum while still being lighter. You should read up on the heat treated aluminum alloy used by Ford on their trucks. There's enough advancements that the traditional thinking of...
  8. Is the JL Wrangler going to be sufficient in a crash?

When you have a BOF where the doors can and will be designed to be lightweight and removable you have to just expect the side impact crash ratings are not going to be good. It just comes with the territory, there's only so much engineering magic that can done when the fan base cares more about...
  9. Say hi to the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JLU

Major styling changes was never the focus. Sergio and Manley said many times that the focus was on fixing long standing issues and making it a better Jeep overall. We've seen nothing to suggest that has not been accomplished. Anyone that is not already in a JK will have no reason to buy a JK...
  10. Say hi to the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JLU

I would say it's more like the TJ. Same with the grille and fenders and overall "feel" of it. What is old is new again.... like much in the Jeep world.
  11. 2018 Wrangler Drops Camo, Shows Backup Camera, Roofline, Grab Handles, Signs of Foldable Windshield

Yea I like the thinking outside the box and actually many things I like about the Africa concept. Lightweight + diesel and a really usable trunk is a great start, but I've always thought it looks off without the spare mounted to the rear. A folddown tailgate would be nice too. They've had...
  12. 2018 Wrangler Drops Camo, Shows Backup Camera, Roofline, Grab Handles, Signs of Foldable Windshield

How would the rear glass open like that? There's still going to be a spare on the back just like the JK. It's in the spy shots too. I would prefer swing up glass just like now, it gets it out of your way and don't have to worry about it swinging back and forth or hitting anything when you open it.
  13. 2018 Jeep Wrangler (2 Door) Finally Reappears But Breaks Down

I don't think the overhead angles will tell you much. What we really need a look at is the covered rear of the roof and the covered rail where the roof meets the doors.
  14. Verified: Engine Start-Stop (ESS) Standard on 3.6L Pentastar 2018 Wrangler Engine

I would think EPA requires all systems need to be active and on upon ignition start up for it to be counted towards the claimed MPG. I have not heard of complaints about the car hesitating or jerking in the ESS system in the Cherokee. It should be very smooth and seamless. Also in total stop...
  15. 2018 Wrangler Drops Camo, Shows Backup Camera, Roofline, Grab Handles, Signs of Foldable Windshield

It's shaping up to look a lot like this render. If the roof panels can be removed like this and rear window can be taken off, I may actually use it more TBH. The hardtop stays on nearly all the time as it is. Even during warmer months here the panels come off only occasionally because most...
  16. 2018 Wrangler Drops Camo, Shows Backup Camera, Roofline, Grab Handles, Signs of Foldable Windshield

Just a different hinge design maybe? I can't imagine what the big mystery could be with door handles.
  17. 2018 Wrangler Drops Camo, Shows Backup Camera, Roofline, Grab Handles, Signs of Foldable Windshield

Of all the things on the side to cover up interesting that they hide the hinges and door handles. What could it possibly be hiding? Keyless entry? Better not be any chrome hinges or anything like that.
  18. New Wrangler Pickup spotted?

I thought that Filson edition was the Crew Chief for a second. Very nice. I think most people would be happy with a JT that looks basically like that.
  19. Will the JL share the new uconnect infotainment? I hope so.

So only the 8.4" can get nav? Makes me question what the point of the optional 7" screen is.
  20. 2018 Jeep Wrangler Price?

Makes sense. That’d help them keep new sales prices higher. On the other hand it also helps the car resale values higher for us owners too.
